Bull’s-eye!!! Ts take
the full ten points in straightforward victory on the Green.
Twickenham managed to do what in the last two weeks alluded them.
Twickenham's slick performance and attention to detail ensured
that a win and a vital 10 points were taken away from the fortress
Green on Saturday.
A very famous man once said "life is like a box of chocolates. You
never know what your going to get". Indeed nothing has been truer
for Nunes's Twickenham side in the last three weeks. At Eastcote
we were dominant but failed to take the bull by the horns and only
ended up with 1 point. This was then followed by a shocking
performance at Acton, which this writer felt was not worthy of a
match report!!
However, this week I am happy to report a chocolate caramel was
pulled from the box as opposed to the coffee cream that we had the
week before.
Skipper Nunes won the toss as last this season and elected to
bowl. Fawad Mullazadah in his usual style took a couple overs to
get going but, as usual, came good and struck in the 7th over,
dismissing the opener to a good catch by Dan the House at 1st
slip.
Rashid Mullazadah continued his good bowling form and struck in
the next over. Fawad then struck once more in the next over. At
16 for 3 Twickenham felt they were going in the right direction.
Hampstead nonetheless consolidated and started to piece together a
partnership. Cometh the hour! Cometh the man! In recent weeks it
could be argued our favourite cuddly South African has been a
little quiet. JP this week can be accused of no such thing with
impressive figures of 10 – 4 - 18 – 4. It was this spell that was
the key for Twickenham’s win, with JP dismissing his fellow
countryman Brandon Buckley. Indeed, Buckley was beginning to look
like he could be a real a handful, although he may have relaxed
too much after he and Clint McCabe spent most of innings chatting
and I think exchanging numbers? Not sure, but I will find out.
Maaz Haffeji had also been lacking a little form came on just
before lunch to dismiss Hampstead’s other threatening batsmen just
before lunch for 48. Maaz, bowling a good line and length finished
with figures 6 – 1 - 19 – 3. Haffeji was also aided by the best
catch seen this season on the Green taken by Paul Pannell standing
at short leg. Paul showed the reactions of a Panther on the loose
when he pouched on a well-struck pull that he caught low and to
his right! Twickenham soon finished Hampstead off and were set a
total of 143 to win.
Messers McCabe and Meredith went about their business in the usual
way and got Twickenham to 50 before McCabe was dismissed LBW in
the 12th over. Dan the House continued his run of form for
Twickenham and Middlesex (44 *) and together with Meredith put a
stand of 68 together. During this period Tom 'Gerard Rebecchi
Bungle' Meredith registered another league 50 and was dismissed in
the end for a well-constructed 63. Skipper Nunes, lacking in
recent weeks his normal gusto, came out and blazed 16 off 7 balls
to remind us all what he can be capable of.
Now here endeth the lesson for today children. Keep your friends
close but your enemies closer. Remember in life what goes around
comes around, so treat others as you wish to be treated and
finally and most importantly NEVER EAT YELLOW SNOW!!
Bring on Tuesday's T20 against Ealing and long may the Twickenham
express keep chugging along.

McIntyre’ Russell
