Wednesday 12th May 2010 20/20 v Wycombe House
Twickenham brushed aside Wycombe House in the Middlesex T20
competition thanks to a devastating innings from skipper Carlos
Nunes which all but ended the contest after only 12 overs.
Bringing up his 50 off roughly 25 balls and then taking another 15
to complete an incredible hundred the amazed onlookers sensed a
double century was possible, but after losing 10 cricket balls
including one monstrous six which not only cleared the boundary
but also the 30ft high fence and the house 20 yards behind that
Nunes was finally removed and the fielding side thought the
carnage might end there. Sadly for Wycombe House this wasn't the
case. All the batsmen looked in good touch with some massive hits
from Paull and F.Mullahzadah and a surprisingly orthodox 30 from
Cronje, it was Russell and R.Mullahzadah who pushed the innings
along with a combination of good hard running(yes from Russell)
and some big hitting(yes again from Russell as well!). After
moving to an
imposing 211-4 off 18 overs the skipper decided that in order to finish the game with some amount of light left it would be best to declare.
Realistically 211 was never going to be chased down and after the first 8 overs and the Mullahzadah brothers had finished their spells leaving the home side on 35-5 it was nothing more than the formality of completing the last 12 overs. Athar Khan and Dave Russell picked up a wicket a piece and Cronje, Guy and Kriess all turned their arm over in the quickly fading light. Even an embarrassing drop by Russell at mid off (he started clapping while the ball was still in the air) could not take the shine off a comprehensive victory for the T's by 125 runs. Twickenham move into the next round and could come up against old T20 adversaries Ealing.
