Founded 1833 - The Home Of The T's

A mixed strength 1st xi made their seasons home debut v Old Ruts, and on a wicket more akind to mid july than april, stand in skipper Paul Johnson,on calling correctly, was happy to have first use of it.
Openers Pete Carey,T's new overseas player, and veteran Aly Vokes strode to the crease, and soon made their intentions clear, with some rasping drives, against an accurate opening attack. It came as somewhat of a surprise when Carey was dubviously adjudged LBW for 3,but enough was seen of the New Zealander to suggest that the T's had imported a real talent.
Warwick Paull joined Vokes, and the pair effortlessly moved the score along,as the Ruts bowlers tired in the uncharacteristic april sun.An equally tired Vokes missed a straight full toss and went for 49 to a more straightforward descision. This brought the big hitting Carlos Nunes to the crease. It has become apparant that T's will have to review their insurance policy this season,as The Green doesn't look big enough for Carlos' repatoire! This was proved as he savaged a quickfire 51,including 3 towering 6's,one through a local residents front window!
Dave Barton continued the bombardment, with his trademark swats, until Paull tiredly nicked behind for a superb 84.Barton went for 37,and a couple of late wickets allowed Johnson to declare on 250 for 6 off just 42 overs.
After an excellent tea,Old Ruts set about the chase with real purpose. Some at best 'wayward' bowling from T's openers Ryan Combrinck and Ritchie Saunders allowed the vistors to race to 82 without loss of just 9 overs. This forced Johnson to introduce experienced seamers Paull and Nunes, who immediately forced a breakthrough, with a caught and bowled for Nunes. Two quick wickets each for these two, effectively took the game out of Old Rut's reach, and this allowed spinners Ben Parer, and 'reluctant' leggie Pete Carey to turn their arms over.Carey in particular, showed he'll be a real asset with the ball aswell,as he bowled with great control, and deservedly finished with four wickets.Parer also bowled tidely and along with Johnson picked up a wicket each, as Ruts were eventually dismissed for 205,giving Twickenham a comfortable victory, but also more importantly,a good workout.
