In preparation for their division two
league campaign which starts next
week, Twickenham Ladies took on two first division teams over the
weekend.
Saturday saw a 7 wicket win over Dukesmead, the ladies Civil Service
side at their home ground in Dukes Meadow for a 35 over match.
Dukesmead
having lost the toss were put into bat. A superb run out by
Nan
Haggarty dismissed their opener Sherina Butler in the 10th over.
This
was quickly followed by two more dismissals in the 11th over giving
Twickenham the upper hand by slowing the run rate down to 3 an over.
At
the close of play Dukesmead were just 115 on the board having lost a
further 3 wickets. Top scorer for Dukesmead was Ruth Bailey on 40.
For
Twickenham: Hollingsbee took 2 for 11 with Anderson, Orford and
Heggarty
all taking one wicket each. In reply Orford's impressive 61
not out
gave them the deserved victory in the 32nd over with 7 wickets in
hand.
Sunday match was Broom Road Teddington against Orpington ladies.
Again
a 35 over match and confident from Saturday's victory saw some solid
batting from top scorer Jenna Luiten 38, supported by Nan Haggerty
19,
Helen Mills 18, Theresa Hollingsbee 17 and Bridget Laatz 16
resulting
in 165 at the close of the innings. However Orpington in fine
form
showed why they were a division above . Despite some admirably
fielding
by the home team Orpington reached the target quite comfortably in
the
30th over with the loss of just one wicket. Poth made 77,
Barrs 36 and
Seagar 36.
Next weekend sees them at The Green for both their matches.
