Orford captures vital wicket of
Price but not until the damage was done.
Twickenham ladies travelled to Sussex to face Brighton and Hove in
the
third of their league matches. Having won the toss they
elected to
field. Using all six bowlers, it was Denise Orford who
did the most
damage, first taking the wicket of their captain Emily Hopkins for
27
in
the 29th over. Then opener Sian Price but not until the 35th
over by
which time Price had accumulated 87 runs from the 93 balls faced.
It
was this 87 that gave the thrust to Brighton and Hove's final
total of
154 when all bowled out in the 36th over. Orford's final
figures were
5 for 13 from just 5 overs. Ann Baker took 2 for 29.
155 was a target that should have been within reach of the
experienced
Twickenham bats but Brighton and Hove was having non of it and
steadily
took wickets as the overs progressed. Karen Wilton's 29
and Orford's
20 helped to nudge the score along but when the 8th wicket fell at
101
in the 32nd over it looked almost over. However Theresa
Hollingsbee
and Nan Haggerty thought otherwise and their excellent 9th wicket
partnership of 35 encouraged Twickenham to push for victory as they
headed towards the target. It was therefore disappointing when
Hollingsbee lost her wicket in the 38th over and when stumps were
drawn,
Twickenham were 17 runs short of the target.
Next week, Twickenham Ladies will be at The Green in a non league
match
versus Shepperton. |
