Twickenham Cricket Club

Founded 1833 - The Home Of The T's

The ladies made an excellent come back from their overwhelming defeat
against league leaders Loughton the week previous as they faced
Letchworth at Twickenham Green on Sunday, winning the match by 32 runs.

Letchworth were currently second in the division and with Twickenham
lying third, it was always going to be close match.

Twickenham won the toss and elected to bat.  Denise Orford 41 not out,
Janet Greenhead 31, Ann Baker 24 and Karen Wilton 17 were the main
scorers and along with the other bats meant that at the close of the 40

overs a score of 173 for 8 was on the board. The 8 wickets being shared

amongst 4 out of the 5 Letchworth bowlers.

Looking determined in the field and giving full support to the bowlers,

Twickenham ladies gave nothing away and after 20 overs Letchworth were
struggling to gather runs.  Just 62 on the board with three wickets
down.  Twickenham were in command.  With wickets falling at a steady
pace, Letchworth found that by the 30th over and 70 runs needed with
just three wickets left, that it was always going be a difficult task.
As the Twickenham bowlers carried on relentlessly, Letchworth finally
ran out of steam in the 39th over and Twickenham were worthy winners.
Top wicket taker was Baker 5 for 47 from 10 overs, with Janet Greenhead

and Tee Hollingsbee 2 wickets each and Nithu Jayalath returning very
good figures of just 17 runs for her 10 overs.

This excellent win for Twickenham ladies has reversed the league
position and Twickenham have edged into second place.  Confident they
travel to Rowledge in Hampshire for another league match next Sunday to

capitalise on this win and retain their league place and in doing so
will be chasing Loughton who have a commanding lead at the top of south

division two.
