Myers’s magic loops 1987 League side to victory

Wembley CC stalwart Charlie Myers looped and twirled the 1987 League side to victory in the Wednesday game of Twickenham CC’s cricket week.  Myers ripped the heart out of the Ts middle order, as batsman after batsman committed hari-kari to his deceptive brand of ultra-slow bowling.  Solid batting by Peter Jadunath’s men in response saw the representative side home with plenty to spare to register an 8 wicket triumph.

The Ts innings was dominated by half centuries from Mark Ryan (his second in cricket week) and Andy Donelan (his sixth of the season).  Matt Freeman (16) and Steve Kokri (15) also chipped in with contributions, but the loop and even more loop of Myers (4-32), coupled with the more conventional off-spin of Chris McGarry (3-20), restricted Mark Johnson’s men to a very gettable 168 all out in 53 overs.

Mark Ryan made every attempt to keep the Ts in the match, bowling a good length and line at a decent rate of knots.  He was unlucky to have a chance go down at first slip, but soon made the breakthrough when he removed Kenton’s Mihail Thacker with a stonking yorker for 12.  Sourav Burman gave able support from the Hampton Road End but Highgate’s Andy Newton (52no) and Harrow Town’s Tyrone Therfield (44) soon began to take control.  Dave Henderson’s wily leg spin saw off Therfield – well stumped by Matt Freeman – but Mike Jadunath (44no) kept his foot on the accelerator pedal as the 1987 League side raced to an easy victory.

Twickenham may have underperformed with the bat, but the curry for lunch was excellent and the port was even better!  The jugs that Charlie Myers bought afterwards also went down very well too.  Thursday sees a Twickenham CC XI take on a team led by club chairman Jon Varney.
