Saturday 3rd July 2010 3s v Finchley 3s

The 3's crashed to another defeat in a topsy-turvey encounter with fellow strugglers Finchley at a glorious St Mary's
T's were asked to bat first, and on paper had probably their strongest batting line up of the season.
Unfortunately,as is often the case, paper doesn't match up with reality, and Twickenham soon slumped to 6 for 3 with Colin Blunden,Ollie George and Anurag Dayal all back in the clubhouse cheaply.
3's debutante Cliff Muil and Ross Montgomery staged a recovery of sorts, with Muil choosing to flay the bowling to all parts in 20/20 stylie.
The score raced past 50 before the introduction of Zeran's prodigious in swing did for Muil, caught for 37,and Montgomery cleaned bowled for 15.
Sumit and Steve Watts came together, and took the score towards the 100 mark, with the former playing some classy shots.
The off spin of Matthews tightened the screw though, and he soon wreaked further havoc in the T's order removing Sumit for 37,Watts for 12 and Mark Smith for 3 leaving Twickenham perilously placed on 97 for 8.
Skipper Paul Johnson came in at no.9 and proceeded to try and rebuild the innings with Jon Trippet, eating up the overs, and picking off the loose balls in the process. The score reached 150 before Trippett drove to mid off for 6.
Youngster Rohan Kulkarni came in at 11 and played sensibly with Johnson, taking the score to 175,before Johnson was caught at deep extra cover for 45.
Kulkarni remained not out on 8.
This was by no means a formidable score on a flat track, but the T's felt it could be competitive considering Finchley's league position.
Ollie George and Rohan Kulkarni took the new ball, but George in particular struggled with his accuracy as Finchley got off to a flyer.
Pattini  and Gul played positively from the off taking the visitors within a hundered of victory after only 12 overs.
By this time, spin had been introduced at both ends in the shape of Dayal and Sumit, and both men gradually turned the game on it's head as a succession of loose shots and quality balls saw them crash to 97 for 7.
With loads of overs to go,T's started to sniff out a win,but skipper Richardson had other ideas.
Some resolute defence, mixed with positive hitting hauled the visitors back into it,and as the score ticked ever closer to the target Twickenham became more ragged.
When a couple of vital catches went down, the writing was on the wall, and Finchley eventually edged home by 2 wickets, with Richardson undefeated on 51.
Dayal finished with 3 for 54 from 23 overs, and Sumit 4 for 66 from 21. But despite their valiant efforts, the T's will look at their continual failings with the bat and in the field for this latest disappointment.
Next week sees a local derby at home to Teddington.
