Saturday 31st July 2010 5s v Crouch End 3s

Twickenham 188- 5 off 50 overs – J.Richards-111*  -  T.Davies 20

Crouch End- 192- 3   D. Henderson- 3 wickets

The T’s unfortunately lost again and this time it was to Crouch End. Skipper Dassani won the toss and elected to bat. Crouch End started off on a high as Gilbert departed for a duck but Walder and in form Aldworth kept it steady for a while. The next wicket came and it was Crouchy to depart. It was a good effort from the wall Aldworth but it was just a ripper of a delivery from Wallace. The balls were popping off a length and batting was unpleasant.

Young under 15 Nakul Duster Vishvanth was next at the crease and with two wickets down it must have been nerves and pressure but he instantly showed his maturity by playing some very sensible shots. Nakul was patient and confident as he never feared any of the bowlers. Nick was the next to depart as he was well caught at point. It was a good catch but nevertheless a tidy effort from N. Walder who departed on 20 odd.

The moment finally arrived at 30-3 that everyone has been thriving to see and the return of Les was finally ready to unleash him self. Cricket welcomed back James Richards. It was a patient start from Les as he was settling himself at the crease as Nakul supported him. Both played patiently and waited for the bad balls to pounce on. They also rotated the strike around when obviously convenient for Les!

T’s were going at a slow pace but after half way through the game Les started to become more aggressive. He managed to get himself to his half century. It was well deserved as he took his time to settle in, dispatched any bad deliveries away to the boundary and also great cricketing shots which the bowler couldn’t really much blame themselves. Nakul was doing well to support Les but his time came to an end as he made a very sensible 20 odd.

On came 18 year old chav Tom Davies to accompany Les. Les just continued smashing the ball all over Broom Road. It was not slogs he as knew what he was doing and executed some marvellous orthodox shots to every single boundary. The 5’s continued to write more fairytales and produce more shocks as Les raced his way to a ton. It was well deserved and what a fantastic way to come back out of retirement. Thank you for that Les it was very entertaining and where have you been hiding all this time?????

Tom Davies at the other end did not hesitate to attack and he also played some blistering shots away to the boundary. He was the next to depart and blazed his way to a rapid 20 runs. It was a good effort from the chav as he played some sublime shots. Hendo was the next in. After that it was test match cricket and the innings folded on 188- 5. Special praise to Les as he was 111* and also to Nakul, Nick and Tom who also contributed well.

The second innings was one to forget as the T’s could not have asked for a worse start. Both opening bowlers raced their way to a 100 partnership and the bowling was just not there for the T’s. The fielding was all over the place with catches being dropped and balls going past the fielders. Joe Gordon did well but had no luck in terms of attaining a wicket and credit goes to Hendo who was probably pick of the bowlers. He got 3 wickets and possibly could’ve got more. Great effort from him but damage had already been done before. It came to a point to seek help from Crouchy with the ball! They chased it down in 30 overs with one of their opening bat hanging on at the end. If we took our chances in the field and possibly got early wickets then it would’ve been an interesting contest. However it was a day to forget but I have every faith that we will bounce back from this. Yet again credit to Les on his ton and a good 3fer haul from Hendo.

Jonno Cockney Column: Where shall I begin? That Les it a tannnn….Blaady ell the bowlers mast ave bowled like that Inay….As for the bowling and fielding display I am not shocked at awll….Absolutely orrendous they are….Even I can do better than alf that 5th tame even though I ave a beer bellaayyy….Ow did that Endo get 3 wickets??? We awll bowl our wits out and e jas cams in throwing lollypops….batsman as a blaady laugh and oofs it in the air or misses the ball. I bet ya they start laughing at iz action and they lost their concentration. That 5th tame is shambles. I fowght that Inay would ave made a blaady difference but e is monk just like Crouchy. I think we should bring Olger back to the 5’s. At lastee he finished 3rd which is respectable. ORRENDOUS! Oh Gilbert by the way I erd you got a golden duck…Your MONK!

Jonty Moment: None really. I might as well give it to Les as the ball never went to him on a single occasion and also never had the opportunity to make him self look silly. Gilbert Sanchez was also solid on the field and demonstrated to a lot of us on how to field!

Monty Moment: There was so many. From Tom Davies, David Henderson, Hinay Dassani and a lollypop dropped from Ben I am the best catcher in division 4 Aldworth to Nick playing with his children on the boundary and without him being aware over throws went past him!
