Saturday 7th August 2010 5s v Perivale Phonecians 4s

Perivale- 103- All Out   B.Abbasi 5-23 H.Dassani 5-72

Twickenham 104- 6   T.Davies 33*   U.Khan 22 G.Sanchez 19

The 5’s got back to winning ways against rivals Perivale in a slightly tense encounter at Weybridge Vandals. After a delayed start as Perivale arrived late which is not surprising and also Shibu getting lost despite having a Sat Nav we got underway as Skipper Dassani won the toss and elected to field first. With Shibu being late it gave Gilbert furthermore debatable issues regarding modern technology and stated that old school maps will come into better use than navigation gadgets!

Dassani and wannabe Jamaican fast bowler Joseph JLS Gordon shared the new ball. Both instantly gave Perivale batsman Masala Masood Afzaal and stand in skipper Harkamal Singh something to think about as very close LBW shouts and balls just falling short of fielders injected some early pressure on the opening pair. The first bowling change was enforced as Dassani felt an ideal line and length bowler will cause damage and Majids older and slimmer brother Basit was introduced to the attack to replace JLS who had a good little stint. Basit instantly looked promising as he delivered some vicious Yorkers but unfortunately the rain chucked it down.

After 1 hour and 30 minutes we got ourselves out there and the overs had to be reduced due to lost time. Both parties agreed to an efficient solution and the game eventually got underway. The first wicket came and it was Dassani to claim it as debutant Abbasi took a superb catch of Afzaal who departed on 22. The second wicket soon arrived and it was big hitting Hashim to loop 1 over to long on and Gilbert Sanchez was under it with ease. It was Dassani again to claim the wicket.

The third wicket soon arrived and it was a well deserved wicket for Basit who clean bowled the Perivale skipper for 13. It was a lucky 13 but nevertheless he stuck at it on the difficult surface. Former Skipper Harwant was the next in. After this the wickets tumbled on a regular basis and both Abbasi and Dassani claimed 5 wicket hauls. The innings ended on 103 All Out. The fielding effort was superb from everyone. Catches were taken and the backing up was consistent. The encouragement, support and discipline was 110% which lead to such a minimal total.

The second innings started and it was a very hard surface for batsman as the pitch was now officially a bowler’s paradise. Afzaal opened the bowling and his line and length was really difficult to play off. Gilbert and Uzzi were the opening the pair who really worked their socks off. Both batsmen played some good cricketing shots. They partnership reached 43 until confusion broke into the running. Two was the call but Uzzi Khan decided to say no at the last moment and that lead to Gilbert to depart on a very well crafted 19. It was a good knock and he definitely deserved more but that will raise his confidence and desire to hit more runs for the remaining games.

The second wicket was soon to follow and it was Uzzi Khan to depart on 22. He was caught and Harwant was the bowler. It was a good knock as he played patiently and set the platform. In came chav number 2 Andy Burden looking to impress on his second game. His partner was chav number 1 Tom Davies and is this going to a special moment for chav central? Well unfortunately not because Perivale’s tails really started to wag as Burden’s attempted hook shot was caught by Wahid at deep mid wicket first ball. A huge roar of ovation from the Perivale side and there must be a sense of feeling around them that they can cause an upset for the T’s.

In came BNP star James Richards at number 5 looking to continue his fabulous form from his sublime ton last week. T’s were really going slow at 48-3. Tom and Les rotated the strike when suitable and also played some crisp drives and pulls to the boundary. Les also instantly gave Perivale something to think about as he hit a wonderful cut shot to the boundary and also a cover drive. Perivale skipper instantly sent a few of his troops to the boundary.

The next wicket arrived and Perivale celebrations hinting that they may have clawed this game home as Les departed on 11 runs. These 11 runs may have been crucial as they injected some much needed momentum to the innings. Anyway Les felt this innings was the most crucial and deserves player points for it. Les also felt this innings was more like 77 not out. I have been told to put this up. (webmaster declines this)

The T’s were now subsequently losing persistent wickets while Perivale’s confidence was on a high. Soon to follow more disaster occurred as Shibu came and went with a disastrous run out. Each Perivale player must have felt that they are on the road to victory. However Tom Davies had other ideas as he continued to race the score board down with some blistering runs to the boundary. The young chav was not letting Perivale add furthermore damage to the T’s. Joe Gordon supported him well by rotating the strike and trying to keep his wicket until another bad call lead to his dismissal which was ironically a run out! The Twickenham’s very own Lucas Johnson was about to explode in frustration. Perivale really fancied this as BT was the next to arrive at the crease. Tom continued to inspire the T’s with some well directed shots to the boundary and both batsmen also ran well between the wickets when the opportunity arrived.

BT just simply kept his wicket and manoeuvred the ball around allowing Tom to take majority of the strike as he took that advantage into this stride as he saw Twickenham home with a 4 wicket victory. It was a great win and it wasn’t easy to bat on that track. It was a fabulous and inspiring knock from the chav Tom Davies as it was not the most attractive track to bat on. Well done to Gilbert, Uzzi, Les and Joe Gordon who also gave a decent effort with the bat. All those runs scored were crucial. As for Perivale they also gave it their best shot. They never gave up and soldiered on right till the end. There were periods where they were on top of us but 103 is always difficult to defend.

Overall it was a well deserved win. It started from the innings with good bowling and most importantly the discipline produced on the field. Congratulations boys and lets give the same performance against Richmond and for the remainder of the season.
