Polytechnic 56- All Out
– A.Fordham 2-13,
JP.Bowman 2-17, B.Thorne 2-22
Match 6 and the 5ths were away to Polytechnic 3’s and the journey to Perivale was worth it this time as the T’s cruised to a 195 run victory. Skipper Hinay Dassani won the toss and elected to bat first. The T’s welcomed back Gilbert and Shahbaz Khan with JP Bowman and David Hill also making their first appearance in the 5’s.
Nick Walder and Uzzy Khan opened the batting again and they both started off very sensibly by settling in and analyzing the opening bowlers Gunn and Goel however any bad deliveries were instantly dispatched to the boundary. Nick eventually started scoring rapidly whilst Uzzy was holding on and supporting him. There were plenty of sublime shots from both batsmen and plenty of good running between the wickets.
After some period the batting style switched and Uzzy became more attacking whilst Nick became more defensive allowing Uzzy to blitz it out. The first wicket eventually came and it was ironically a jug avoidance wicket with Uzzy Khan departing on 49. He was caught at square leg as Uzzy pretty much gave away a chuba chup lollypop. Nevertheless it was a well crafted and respectable 49 by Uzzy. Nick soon followed Uzzy as he was trapped for LBW on 42. Yet again it was an exquisite knock with mixture of sublime shots. Uzzy and Nick definitely set the T’s to a comfortable Platform and deserved at least a half century each. The partnership was a substantial knock of 121.
With two fresh batsmen at the crease it was
the exiting David Hill and Shabaz Khan however David came and went
which brought Gilbert to the crease. Shabhaz was the next to
depart on a quick fire 12. However there were two crispy
boundaries smashed towards the boundary which definetly will
determine the qualities and attributes the
Gilbert was the next to go as he went onto his back foot and got penalised as he was trapped for a silky 14. Hendo tried to cut down the wickets but a decent delivery from the bowler had him bowled for 5. This was starting to become a huge collapse like the previous weeks but Dassani and hot prospect Alex Fordham instantly made an impact by smashing the ball to the boundaries and running well between the wickets. Alex was looking very impressive as he was playing some groovy orthodox shots whilst Dassani on the other end was supporting him. Alex was the next to go but it was a very impressive and classy 15 runs which increased more runs to the tally. BT was the next to arrive at the crease who was batting for the first time this season and my word it was worth waiting for as he joined the party with Dassani as strike was being rotated with some good running between the wickets and shots which were flying to the boundary.
Dassani became more and more aggressive throughout the innings with BT at the other end backing him up. BT was the next to depart on a very decent 14. Credit goes BT as those 14 runs were clinical to add more pressure to Polytechnics batting. The world came to a state of shock when the most unlikely figure reached to his half century. It was the skipper’s first ever 50 but it felt better as it was for Twickenham. With Hendo hitting 61 two weeks ago and now Dassani 53* this will definitely concern Paul Johnson. One more shock and we may all expect Jonno hanging in the changing room. Back to reality now and Dassani declared on the 48th over with the score of a substantial 251 runs.
Tea was nice and simple and Hendo tea meter would have a fairly decent grade. There were quite a lot of vegetarian sandwiches left over but if Majid was playing then that tray would’ve been empty. Tea was served outside and it seemed like a typical Indian way of having a picnic.
The second innings started with JP Bowman and Dassani sharing the new ball. It was a fairly slow start but the deadlock was broken by the YID as batsman hoofed the ball in the air to extra and young Geordie Alex Fordham was there to show of his safe pair of hands. Good start for the T’s and Poly skipper was next to go as Dassani clean bowled him for 3. This is the 4th time Dassani has got the opposition skippers out.
The first bowling change came soon afterwards and BT the telephone line stepped into to replace the tired Dassani. Time for BT to show the skipper how being fit is essential. The third wicket came and the YID bowled a peach as Calum was cleaned bowled. This was a big wicket as he looked like a decent bat.
BT just kept doing what is normally does as he was edging mighty close to his first wicket of the game. The second bowling change was enforced and it was Fordham on for JP. It was a very good effort from JP who bowled with good pace and movement and deserved his two wickets.
It took a while to get the next wicket and it was becoming frustrating but at the same time it would arrive very shortly as BT and Fordham consistently bowled wicket taking deliveries which batsman would eventually give up and that was the case as young Fordham popped his wicket cherry as batsman edged to Uzzy Khan behind the stumps. It was a well deserved wicket for the 16 year would bowled very maturely. It proved to be a big wicket as the batsman was prepared to block out the whole innings.
Skipper told BT to take a blow but Uzzy Khan urged the skipper to keep him on as he reckons he will get a wicket the next over. Dassani then told BT carry on. The amazing stories in the 5’s continued as BT clean bowled Goel and kind were from BT to the skipper was always listen to your keeper. Nevertheless it was well deserved and BT without a wicket in a game is like the world coming to an end.
Alex Fordham continued to impress with a Yorker length delivery clean bowling batsman Rigby. Gilbert was standing in the corner with a smile on his face looking towards Alex. T’s were now cruising and on course to victory and BT made sure of that as he wrapped the wonderful day of cricket up.
It was a fantastic win for the T’s. It was a tough game for Poly as they only had 8 players but T’s were always going to be superior. It feels good to be back to winning ways and let us use this as a confidence boost against Alexandra Park which will be a very tough encounter. There are a lot of good things to look forward to as Shabhaz Khan is back, promising talents like Alex Fordham arising, Ben Aldworth looking to return soon with more surprises. Who knows he may be the next one to give Jonno sleepless nights and Majid looking to consume all the Tea. Next couple of games are going to be integral as our dreams of promotion is still alive.
