Sunday 30th May 2010 Sunday X1 v Ickenham

First round of the Middlesex Cup saw the T's take on Ickenham at the Green. Yet another M1 style Bendelow wicket was presented and after an early toss the T's won the toss and elected to bat.

Strolling to the crease (Cassonova) McCabe & (Bungle) Meredith were out to add another 50 partnership to their season tally. The pair were left two short of their goal with McCabe falling to a sharp yorker from Ickenham Overseas Player Scanlon. Meredith followed shortly afterwards leaving two sixteen year old's in Parker and O'Brien with the job of steering the Twickenham innings to a competitive total. Some clever batting and good running between wickets saw Parker reach (43) and O'Brien (51). With some work to still do a handy Cameo from the steady handed ”CanU” Cronje (45) pushed the T's total to 231/6 off the alloted 45 overs.

With still a lot to do the T's took to the field needing to restrict their opponents to less than 5.16 an over for victory. (Heat) Haffeji and (Rattail) Kulkarni took the new rock from the green spice and Hampton road ends respectively. The Ickenham openers appeared to be out of their depth with (Heat Haffeji) pinning both openers. They both remained at the crease through a great deal of luck and it wasn't until the thirteenth over the T's struck with a some pressure bowling. Parker picked up two wickets in 3 overs to give the T's a sniff. However Ickenham chanced their arms and it came off. Few chances presented without the T's able to take them. Ickenham proceeded to chase down the competitive total in the 41st over. It was clear it wasn't the T's day with key bowling figure Cronje left on the sideline after pulling a ”hamy” during the batting innings, plenty lofted shots landing short of fielders, a large number of plays & misses not finding the edge and half chance catches not sticking.

Overall an unlucky but encouraging days cricket with some stars of the future for Twickenham showing their ability in senior ranks.

Special thanks to David (Dobby) O'Brien for filling in for the injured Conje.
