Twickenham ladies

Having achieved third place in the league last season, the ladies section is looking forward to the challenge of another league campaign in Division Two of the Southern League and a successful run in the Southern League Knockout Cup this summer. The formation of the Women’s Cricket Southern League in 2004 has meant the transfer of the league administration from the ECB to the WCSL, which now offers cricket to 32 teams in the South divided into four leagues, with ultimate promotion to the ECB Premier League. Division Two consist of eight team from the Counties of Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, Surrey and Sussex with matches played both home and away.

In addition to the competition matches, a scattering of friendly matches ensure that, there is plenty of cricket available throughout the summer. The season starts in April with indoor training at Hampton Community College and matches runs from 26th April through to 13th September, mostly on Sundays with the addition of some Saturday fixtures spread throughout the season.

Now in our 9th season as the ladies section of Twickenham Cricket Club, the team over the years has had various grounds but is now comfortably settled at The Green and Broom Road, Teddington, enjoying the facilities of being part of an established club and all the benefits that it brings. The origins of the team however, go back to 1946 and 2006 saw the ladies celebrate 60 years of cricket

In addition to weekend matches, nets are held on a Wednesday night and with coaching available, is an ideal opportunity to develop cricket skills. We are currently represented at County Level but in the past had International players as members and were the first women’s team to tour New Zealand, with previous tours to Holland and Ireland.

Once South Premier League Champions and winners of the National Knockout Cup, means that to return to former glories, league promotion and a good cup run is always the aim, however enjoyment of the game will also be the emphasis for Captain Ann Baker.  Ann has a wealth of experience to lead the team in a bid for a competitive 2008 season, ably supported by Vice-Captain Karen Wilton. We look forward to seeing players, officials and supporters again this season and wish everyone a most successful and enjoyable season, whether it be at club cricket or at county level.
