The 5ths' win the first of their three cup finals and now look a good bet to stay up

Paddy Turish, I salute you! Trying a Dilshan Scoop on a wet Broom Road wicket deserves 'nuff respect

The 5ths have had something of a topsy-turvy year. They started off poorly and at one point they were firmly anchored to the foot of the 1987 League Division Three table. They then picked up and went on a two month unbeaten run, before the top two, Ealing V and Acton IV, got the better of them in weeks 14 and 15. That left the 5ths needing to win two out of the last three matches to ensure themselves of Division Three cricket in 2018.

They went along way to doing that with a solid performance and 10 points against now-relegated Edmonton III (see the table here). An excellent 65no from Nitin Parab was the cornerstone of a strong batting display, whilst Zafar Ali's 4-10 (off 10 overs) gave the visitors precious little chance of making any headway (see here for the card).

Phil Walker gives us the full lowdown on the day's affairs here. "Nitin Parab's knock showed some excellent game management" he explained to TMS's Jonathan Agnew "whilst Zafar Ali proved to be a real handful for all of the Edmonton top order" he continued. "We subsequently go in to our final two games full of confidence, the only concern is whether we'll be able to get the roller out of the roller shed again. That thing has got a mind of own, I think it's been possessed". Tune in next week to hear more on that one.
