MDL side take the strain and remain unbeaten

The Twickenham MDL side remain unbeaten after two of their five MDL league games. Sunday 1 July saw them venture over to play the traditionally strong Wycombe House.

The House took first hit and runs flowed freely. Skipper Talha Malik helped himself to 53 whilst Mehboob Elahi recorded a half-century before having to retire. For the Ts Mo Ahmad nabbed three poles, whilst young Luke Jefferies also got in on the wicket-taking act (see here for the card).

Wycombe House's 248 (off a little more than 40 overs), left Twickenham with 39 to bat. Quite why WH decided to bat so long isn't clear, but the Ts, with a mixed batting line up, were always up against scoring quicker than a run a ball. So, if you can't win, make sure you don't lose. And that's precisely what the visitors did.

That became even more imperative when Ajmal Allahdad was trapped in front second ball. The Ts battened down the hatches and challenged WH to get them out. They couldn't. So the game ended in a draw. Mo Ahmad again shone with the bat (63no) and 16 year old Waris Khan also demonstrated good stickability for his 17no.

Perhaps there's a lesson here somewhere. Dangling a carrot and risking losing to give yourself a chance of winning is all part of 'proper' cricket. Wins, in other words, don't grow on trees. The draw for the Ts subsequently sees them remain above WH in the table moving on (see here).
