Rain ruins first weekend, but still plenty to look forward to

We backed ourselves in a water polo contest with Acton, but it looks like we'll have to wait for another occasion to show the world our skills there
- Carlos Nunes

The first weekend of the TCC season was a washout. The traditional season-opener for the ones at Acton fell foul to the might of the British weather on Wednesday, whilst Englefield Green knocked the Sunday side's opening fixture on the head even earlier than that. We draw a line, we move on.

The weather will, so we hear, pick up this week and everyone at TCC is confident that the 2018 show will be on the road on Saturday 22nd. Indeed, we have an appetising set of fixtures to look forward to.

The firsts welcome East Molesey to the Green (13h start) whilst the seconds make the short journey to Hampton Court to play the Surrey side's second string (also 13h start). On Sunday the 1sts are once again in action on the Green, this time against Harrow St Mary's in the first round of the national knockout. The Sunday XI will also be in action, making the short journey around the A316 to Kew.

Do let the skippers know your availability for all these games. You can do that via this website. Remember, too, that pre-season games are opportunities for everyone to have a hit; even if you regularly play league cricket in the 4ths (for example), do put your availability down. You may well get a game and it'll be a good opportunity to get out there and test yourself.

In the meantime, do also remember to pay your annual subs. You can do this via this website, too. If you run in to any problems, do simply let either the skipper or the secretary know.

Play a straight back, folks.
