Cambridge triumph by 93 runs at Fenners

Bangers and mash for tea; no complaints from me on that score
- Paul Johnson

In 2018 the Ts hosted Cambridge University on Twickenham Green. In 2019 the invitation was returned and a mixed TCC XI duly travelled to Fenners on Monday 20 May to take on CUCC.

In the end, Cambridge came out clearly on top, although the Ts will nonetheless be reasonably pleased with the performance they put in (see here for the card). The hosts, getting ready for their annual encounter with Oxford at Lord's, took first hit and piled up 284 in their 50 overs. Skipper Edward Hyde top-scored with 90 whilst Ollie Dewhurst (temporarily on loan from Ealing for the occasion) claimed an impressive 3-35 off 10.

In reply Twickenham looked to be very much in the game when Darshan Chohan and Don Manuwlege were at the crease. Indeed, at 98-1 the visitors looked well set to launch themselves at the victory target. But, the departures of Chohan (48 off 66) and Manuwelge (43 off 45) saw the Ts fall behind the rate and ultimately slip away.

Keeper Mo Ahmed helped himself to an enterprising 23 (off 18 balls) whilst Mesome Hussain also managed 23 in the middle order. Their efforts weren't, however, enough to see the Ts run Cambridge close, closing as they did on 191.

Well-beaten though the Ts ultimately were, it was a good workout for all concerned. Bring on 2020 when we looked forward to hosting this fixture again.
