9 runs in it as Ts squeeze home

Usman Riaz has clearly been educated in the Shahid Afridi school of batting; if it moves, whack it!
- Hinay Dassani

The TCC Sunday XI dodged the Sunday showers and ultimately came out on top in an entertaining encounter at Byfleet (see here for the card).

Debutant Usman Riaz (47) was the star of the batting show, bombasting anything and everything that was bowled in his direction. His partnership of 37 with Mark Johnson (2) helped the Ts move away from a potentially perilous 30-3 and on a path to a decent score.

Riaz Gul (33) and Rajdeep Chaudhary (26) kept the momentum going in the middle order whilst Hinay Dassani (15) and Nisar Abidi (also 15) put on a what turned out to be invaluable 30 for the last wicket.

In reply, Matt Hockin (36) set off quickly, but excellent work from Dom Thamby (4-26, including four of the top five) soon hauled the Ts right back in to the game. Home skipper Neal Jones, batting at five, nonetheless stood firm against Thamby's onslaught and with him there Byfleet were always in the game.

Wickets, however still kept falling; Abidi (2-31 off 8) bowled nicely, as did Riaz Gul (also 2-31). It was Rajdeep Chaudhary who ultimately sealed the deal for the Ts, claiming Liam and Lennon Collins to see the Ts home. Spare a thought for Jones, though; he was marooned on 51no at the other end.

All in all, and despite the rain's best efforts, this ended up being a really good game of cricket. Well done one and all.
