Vets struggle gamely, but ultimate win silver medal in leafy Kent

We came, we played, we did not conquer. But we had an excellent day nonetheless
- Aly Vokes

The TCC Vets (plus assorted guests) have an honourable tradition of not taking themselves too seriously. Given the rust that was evident all round at Castle Hill CC on Sunday 12 May, that's clearly no bad thing!

Aly Vokes led the side in to action. Rather unusually the Ts found themselves playing a timed game and indeed fielding first. Castle Hill started brightly, putting on 50 for the first week, but then Hinay Dassani claimed a couple of poles to get the Ts up and running.

Wickets then fell at regular intervals; Anir Guharaja got in on the act, Rajdeep Chaudrhy took an excellent caught and bowled, Dan Hough managed to poach himself one, but the hosts still managed to wriggle up to 171.

In reply, the Vets started brightly, if rather slowly. Paul Johnson and in particular Guharaja pulled in front of square nicely, and both looked well set as the Ts approached 50 without loss. That, however, was as good as it got. Wickets began to fall all to regularly and eventually the sides returned to the bar with Twickenham 60 short of their total.

Thanks to Castle Hill for hosting. A good day all round.
