The Sheikh of Tweak spins the twos to a dramatic victory

The Sheikh of Tweak (Anu Agarwal) thrives under pressure. He's the dictionary definition of a big game player
- Eugene Berger

Wins for the twos and fours on a topsy turvy day for the Ts. The 4s cruised home by 8 wickets against Teddington 4s, whist the 2nds won a real knicker-gripper on the Green thanks to a magnificent five wicket haul from the Earl of Twirl, Anu Agarwal. The 1s, 3s and poor old 5s all went down to defeats.

Teddington curse continues for the ones

The Ts just can't seem to get anything out of Teddington. Earlier in the season they had the Bushy Parkers 31-5 on the Green before the rain came. Week 11 saw very different weather and a very different game.

Teddington batted first on a motorway of a track and piled on 293 off a fraction more than 59 overs (see here for the card). Nick Pryde was the star of the batting show, helping himself to 133. Varun Sivaram toiled long and hard for his 4-75, whilst Parminder Singh (4-84) also did what he could to stem the flow.

In return the Ts never really got going. Whilst Don Manuwelge (59 off 82 balls) and Carlos Nunes (29 off 42 balls) were at the wicket home burned eternal, but the run out of the skipper handed the momentum very much to the hosts. 43 from Sivaram couldn't prevent the inevitable as the Ts slipped to 192 all out.

Twos win by 4 runs
It was a very different story on Twickenham Green. The Ts entertained Teddington knowing that anything other than a win and they could begin planning for Division Two cricket next year. And, fair play, Eugene Berger's troops rose to the challenge admirably (see here for the card).

Varad Rampal (21 off 25 balls) set the tone at the top, but it was Phil Nash (82 off 103 balls) who really pushed the innings on. 35 from Nikhil Nomula also helped keep things moving as the Ts posted a healthy enough 221.

221 is nonetheless often not enough to win games on the Green. A lightening outfield and a decent enough batting surface can see to that. The promising Ozzie Qavi nonetheless took two early wickets in an over to leave Teddington 25-2. The hosts were certainly in the game. Teddington did still seem to have the upper hand as runs flowed easily enough.

They did, however, also keep losing wickets. 151-5 became 176-6 and the tension started to rise. The big problem for the Ts was the Teddington number three who was now approaching 100. Get him and they'd win the game.

The good news for Eugene Berger was that Anu Agarwal was in his side and there is no better man in the club to throw the ball to when you're under pressure. Agarwal had stepped up to the plate in the last game of 2017 to take a hat-trick and send the Ts in to the Premier League and, sure enough, it was the Lord of the Rings who again produced the goods. Crucially, his five wicket included the Teddington centurion. He reached three figures before being trapped leg before very next ball. The Ts had won by five runs.

'Coach' Guharaja leads the rearguard for the 3s

The story for the threes was less positive, although a really stubborn effort in the field did at least make life tough for top of the table North London. Batting first things looked pretty dismal at 70-8, but Coach Anir Guharaja dug deep to do all he could to blunt a strong North London attack. His 43no was well-deserved.

Guharaja was well supported by both Waris Khan and Firooz Ahmed, both of whom realised that keeping North London out in the sun for as long as possible had to be a good thing. 131 all out does, after all, win the odd game of cricket, as stand-in skipper Stu Amos was keen to tell his troops.

North London are, of course, not top of the table for nothing and they kept to their task well. But, the Ts did at least take four wickets with them. The league table (see here) now makes interesting reading. The 3s remain in mid-table, but a whole gaggle of teams are grouping behind them. Three or four more wins are definitely needed just to make 100 per cent sure that they are playing Division Two cricket again next season.

Emphatic victory for the 4s
The fours got back to winning ways with a fine victory against near-neighbours Teddington. The visitors batted first, finishing on 137 off 41 overs. Evergreen Pete Burke helped himself to four wickets whilst the one man bowling machine, Hinay Dassani, pouched two. Nitin Parab and Ijaz Mehmood also got in on the wicket-taking act.

In reply the Twickenham top order made light work of the chase. Uzzi Khan decided to go straight in to T20 mode, blasting 35 off 24 balls, whilst Nitin Parab made batting look very easy for his fine half-century. Karandeep Singh (30no) also continued his decent run this season, although it was Parab (63) who ultimately secured the 10 points with a boundary. Good work all round. The table, when it's updated, will be here.

Short day for the 5s
The less said about the 5ths day the better. Param Saini's men travelled to South Hampstead and received something of a mauling from the hosts' opening bowler. He took no less than 5-9 off 9, leaving the Ts batting line up in tatters.

42-3 was nonetheless not the worst place in the world to be, but 57 all out certainly wasn't ideal. Indeed, it was never likely to prove too much trouble for the South Hampstead batting line up as the 5s were done and dusted before England began taking on Belgium in the World Cup third place play off. The updated table will be available here.
