If the Duke of Spain stays away, then we've an interesting day's cricket in prospect

We in the 5ths have been working on how to blunt the bowling prowess of Finchley's Steve Blyghton. Rumours that that involves signing up the sniper who shot Tom Grundy on the Green last week are, however, totally unfounded

Saturday may well be a key day in the seasons of a number of Twickenham sides. Why? The answer lies not so much in who the respective teams are playing but whether they manage to actually get out and get a game on. Wet weekends are championship-winning weekends; play (and win) when others don't, and you help yourself to what in effect are bonus points. Fingers crossed that the Ts' sides can dodge the showers.

Aiming to go one better

The ones travel over to North-West London to play struggling Hornsey. And, they travel in buoyant mood. Carlos Nunes again has a strong line up in tow, and that even though he finds himself making two changes to the side that did so well against Highgate last week. The mightily unlucky Kev Cavilla (what more can a man and his big toe do to retain a place, I ask you!) makes way for Ashley Gray whilst Greg Nielson returns to boost the seam department in place of Amardeep Rehncy.

Back on track
The twos, meanwhile, will be looking to put their poor performance at Stanmore last week well and truly behind them. Eugene Berger largely keeps faith with the side that has got Twickenham's second string within touching distance of the promotion slots, although he does make three changes. Ashley Gray is in the ones, whilst Mahi Khuman makes his seasonal debut in the 2s; Khuman is due some runs, let's hope Saturday is the day.

Kamran Toor and Phil Nash are also unavailable, meaning that Darshit Mashar and Pete Darby come back in. There's talent in that side, it's now simply a question of delivering.

Revenge Time
The thirds are on a decent run, but they will be conscious that they slipped up badly at Ickenham nine weeks ago failing to chase 100. The minds will be well and truly channelled to make amends at St Mary's.

Steve Watts hands the captain's armband to the Big Tackle (Stuart Amos) this week, and Amos welcomes back Mark Smith and the on form Ozzi Qavi in to the side. With the likes of Mohit Mashar, Steve Cowley and Olli George at the top of the order the Ts have plenty of batting potential, whilst Robbie Bosier, Smith and the ever-consistent Lord of the Rings, Anu Agarwal, give a range of bowling options. Throw in the Amos off spin and the Ts have plenty of tools in the toolbox.

Keeping the bandwagon rolling
The fours have an interesting encounter to look forward to against third placed Highgate. The fourths are only sixth in the division but they are definitely on the move. And in the right direction. This will be an interesting test of where they stand.

Colin Blundon returns at the top of the order, whilst the middle order enforcers (Tomar and Singh) will be looking to carry on their good work of recent weeks. The bowling department looks rich in options, with Mehran Iqbal, newly-discovered match report writer Shreeraj Chauhan and JP Bowman offering skipper Hinay Dassani just three of a number of options.

Blunting Blyghton

The fifths will look to continue living the dream. They, exactly as is the case with the 4s, have a 6th v 3rd encounter that is likely to reveal more about how much progress they have made in recent weeks.

The big challenge for Walker's Wonders will be to deal with Finchley's Steve Blyghton; a bowler who could almost certainly still play at a higher level. Deal with him, and the 5s are in with a chance.

The team now has a pretty consistent look about it, too, with Martin Fairn putting together a run of appearances and Arvind Shidlagatta, Anri Guharaja, Giraffe (the Wounded), Vin Diesel, sorry, Gilly Sanchez and Paramdeep Saini all helping to give the side some backbone. With Chris Tavare (Paul McLoughlin) and Geoff Boycott (Phil Walker) also in the ranks you just know they are not going to give anything away easily either.

Best of luck one and all
