Twickenham U12s v Teddington U12s
U12s take all 10 wickets but can't quite manage to get over the line.
Teddington 117-all out v Twickenham 89-all out
Twickenham welcomed Teddington to a warm and sunny Green for their second league match of the season.
Teddington won the toss and decided to have bat. Usual opening bowling partnership of Luca and Hamish kept the opening Teddington batters in check for the first few overs including a wicket for Luca off the 2nd ball of the innings. The Teddington batters made steady progress without running away with things and the Ts kept taking regular wickets. After 10 overs Teddington were 52-4 and the Ts were fielding and bowling well. A couple of high scoring overs for Teddington pushed their score along but from the 15th over onwards the wickets started to fall again and the Teddington innings somewhat stumbled to 177 with the 10th wicket being taken in the 19th over. A great effort on the field by the Ts and the first time in a long while that the team had taken all 10 wickets.
Oliver and Hamish opened up the Ts reply. Unlike Teddington the Ts survived the first few overs without looking in trouble. Oliver’s unfortunate dismissal (a stumping after just leaving his ground) in the 3rd over brought Frankie to the crease. Looking solid and in control Frankie and Hamish kept the score going along at decent clip. By taking 19 runs off the 6th over they had reached 34-1 and were level pegging with Teddington. Soon after Frankie departed to a great catch at deep-ish square leg after flicking powerfully of his hip. Hamish was next to go in the 9th over, mis-timing a push down the ground which went back to the bowler. Max departed next ball when run out to a good throw from point leaving him short by a yard. Dan and Sammy consolidated things for a while taking the odd single here and there, plus Sammy crunching a four through cover. In the 15th over, and the Ts now quite far behind the run rate, Sammy tried to push things on but could only hole out to mid-off - the fielder taking to another fine catch for Teddington. Sean (bowled) went next ball followed by Woody (caught) the ball after, Teddington obviously jubilant with the Hat-trick. Alex and Luca took to running quickly for singles and putting the fielding side under a bit of pressure but a forced run to far left both batsman at one end and Luca had to go. Last man Danny came to the crease and tried to crack his first ball over cover but unfortunately could only find the fielder and the Ts reply ended on 89 all out.
Despite the result this was a much improved performance for the U12s with the players showing lots of encouragement and support for each other. With a little more composure when batting the result may have been a little closer. Promising debuts by Dan and Woody were another positive for the team. The U12s now face 3 league matches away from home.
