The ladies having won the Surrey Slam West league by winning all their slam matches saw them on Sunday go to the Surrey Slam final being held at the Horsley and Send ground in West Horsley, Surrey automatically as semi-finalists.
They were drawn against Streatham and Marlborough Hawks the runners up of the Surrey Slam East League. The opposition winning the toss decided to bat first and started well with 53 on the board before their first wicket fell when Penny Thane-Woodhams had their opener LBW. Despite two more wickets being taken, our bowling was far from accurate and with 2 runs scored for a wide and no ball along with anything scored off the bat, at the end of the 16 overs, Streatham and Marlborough had an impressive 156 on the board; 56 of those being extras.
Twickenham Tornadoes not daunted rose majestically to the challenge, with both Penny and Sarai Knight having to retire once they reached 40 and with Charlotte adding 38, a valiant 136 was on the scoreboard at the end of Twickenham’ s 16 overs, just 17 runs short of victory. Streatham having only given away 13 extras certainly proved to be the match winner.
Streatham and Marlborough went onto face Reigate Priory Lady Llamas and won the final by 8 runs and duly crowned Surrey Slam champions 2019.
