Sunday saw us back on The Green playing Reigate Priory. Not the best of start as we lost someone Sunday morning to take us down to 10 and Rose wasn’t due to arrive at the ground until after 3pm. Rose was travelling back from Wales after a rugby tournament and kindly offered to get the match as soon as she could.
Charlotte won the toss and it meant we could bat which was Charlotte’s intention. A great opening partnership between Penny and Sinead saw 93 on the board for the loss of the first wicket after 16 overs when Penny was dismissed just past her half century on 53 from 43 balls. Sinead soon followed with the score on 97, having scored a very good 35 but was still fined for half century avoidance. Hazel went onto to score 54 not out from 65 balls with partnership of 30 with Charlotte and then 52 with Spuggie who scored 20. By the close of our innings we were 209 for 5 and a good target to have on the board.
Or was it, we were again light on main stream bowlers, so much so we had 3 people keep wicket so that Charlotte could juggle the bowling around. Reigate’s opening partnership followed ours with 88 on the board when their first wicket fell to Sinead in almost the exact time: 15 overs. It was then followed by a 99 partnership which was only broken after Jess gathered the ball deep the field and with a great throw in Rose was able to swiftly scoop the bails off on the return run. At a 187 the damage was done and it didn’t take long for Reigate to get to 210 with 8 wickets in hand.
A big thank you to Hugh who helped us out with the umpiring and Lizzy who stepped up to score the game.
