Introduction - Junior Cricket at Twickenham CC
Twickenham CC junior section provides coaching for young cricketers of all abilities from the ages of five to seventeen. We provide a safe and supportive environment for all our juniors to learn and develop their cricketing skills. Our main aim is for our Junior players to have fun playing cricket and to play to the best of their ability, but we also wish to nurture an understanding and a love for the game of cricket where our Junior players play cricket fairly and with respect for their team mates, the opposition and officials.
For our youngest members – Under 6s (School Year 1) to Under 8s (School Year 3) – we offer an All Stars Programme from April to July. All Stars sessions take place on Twickenham Green, Sunday mornings from 10am–11.30am. Sessions are led by trained All Stars Activators and are a great introduction to cricket providing a fun environment to begin learning the skills of batting, bowling and fielding.
For children in the age groups from Under 9s (School Year 4) through to Under 17s (School Year 12), outdoor summer training sessions take place from April to the end of July. Our Under 9s, U10s, U11s and U12s train at Twickenham Green on Friday evenings 6pm-7.30pm. For our older age groups, that’s Under 13s upwards, training takes place on Saturday or Sunday mornings. For these older age groups we have outdoor training facilities at Orleans Park School where there is a practice cricket pitch plus nets.
Indoor winter training sessions take place from January to March and for the last few years have been held at St Mary's University on Saturday evenings. At our Indoor training sessions we can only accommodate the Under 9s to Under 15s age groups.
Colts Training sessions are organised and supervised by coaches who are DBS checked and ECB qualified, a number of our coaches have Coach Support Worker and UKCC Level 2 qualifications.
Twickenham CC compete in the Middlesex Junior Cricket Association (M.J.C.A) League and Cup competitions. The M.J.C.A. organise fixtures for all age groups from U9s to U17s. All children, within these age groups, will be eligible to compete for spaces in our age group squads/teams and we aim to give as many Juniors as possible the experience of playing competitive cricket. For more Information on competitive matches please see our Junior Competitive Matches - More Information page.
All our coaches and Team managers are volunteers who are usually parents of junior cricketers. We are always keen to involve any parents who are interested in helping and improving our junior section. An advanced level of cricketing knowledge is not required to make a difference and there are many supporting roles available, from assisting coaches at training sessions to helping at matches. We regularly look to secure places on training courses run by Middlesex Cricket for those volunteers committed to helping Twickenham CC and who wish to learn more about coaching, umpiring or scoring.
Juniors' families are an essential part in making Twickenham CC the friendly and open club it is. As part of a Junior’s membership their family are considered non-playing members of Twickenham CC and, whenever a cricket match is taking place on Twickenham Green, they’re very welcome to enjoy the bar facilities at the pavilion.
