Last pair keep their nerve to see the Ts home

The sun continues to shine, cricket continues to be played. All good.

U9s on the charge
The U9s were the latest Twickenham side to step up and win a close encounter. They came up against a decent Hounslow and Whitton team, squeezing home by 11 runs,.

The U9s play pairs cricket, so everyone gets a bat and teams start at 200. You lose runs if players are out. The U9s seem to be getting very into the groove with it, too; that's three wins on the bounce for them now.

Drama to the end
Hounslow and Whitton had first hit and they put 267 on the board. The Ts' chase started impressively with 58 runs being scored by the first two pairs. That included some cracking boundaries; the Ts looked to be cruising home.

The next two pairs kept the runs flowing but the occasional bit of kamikaze running plus some skilful opposition fielding saw a number of run-outs incoming. Nerves were beginning to fray.

The last pair went in with U9s 12 runs ahead of the target. Would the batters keep their nerve? Runs flowed .... but so did wickets and as the Ts entered the last over they found themselves defending a 7 run lead. A quick strategy meeting followed by brilliant defensive batting saw the batters bring it home, winning the game by 11 runs.

One of the TCC helpers, Manish Jain, was really pleased with the way the side's developing. "The team has certainly grown in confidence and the great coaching support, on field teamwork and parents’ encouragement from the sidelines is well reflected in the recent results".

Long may it continue.
