Sunday XI travel to Englefield Green in hope and in expectation

I expect IPL fireworks from the boys. No ifs, no buts.
- Hinay Dassani

For many in the cricketing world the glitzy IPL may well be the talk of the town, but this coming Sunday a rural piece of Surrey will see Twickenham's Sunday XI start the 2019 season in the most traditional fashion possible.

Englefield Green and Twickenham, both clubs that are at home on village greens, will begin their respective campaigns looking to blow away the cobwebs and get their players slowly but surely up-to-speed. Englefield Green, now plying their trade in the third division of the Surrey County League, will be looking to mount a promotion charge and this is likely to be a useful game in helping them get a feel for where they are at.

Twickenham, meanwhile, will be fielding an eclectic mix of cricketing talent. The veritable institution that is Hinay Dassani will be leading the troops, whilst Anir Guharaja - the man who coaches the coaches who coach the coaches - will be firmly at his side.

The rest of the squad may or may not be well equipped to score runs, but there will almost certainly be plenty of entertainment. Stuart Amos, for example, has gone on record to say that one of his 2019 aims is to run out Oli George at least once; given that both are in Sunday's side we can only hope that they get the chance to bat together.

Connor Finney, long since resigned to Ipswich Town's relegation to League One, will be looking to restore some Suffolk pride whilst Phil Smith, Rajdeep Choudhary and Amardeep Gill will also be looking to start their respective seasons off with a bang.

Come what may, this fixture is always an excellent way to get things up and running. Why? As the tea is usually fantastic!

Go well everyone.
