Week 8 saw a full house of wins. Can Week 9 match that?

Five wins from five two weeks running? Who knows ...
- Paul Johnson

Last weekend’s “Weekend of Wonder’ – seven wins out of seven for the TCC men’s sides – is going to be untoppable in week nine, but all of the Ts’ sides will nonetheless be out to keep their winning streaks going.

Ones welcome Shay Boo
The ones return to Twickenham Green to take on Shepherd’s Bush. The Bush have now established themselves as a strong Premier Division club and they currently sit fourth in the table (see here). Although they remain 13 points behind third placed Teddington they’ll not have counted themselves out of the title race just yet.

The Ts aren’t harbouring such lofty ambitions. Indeed, moving up to joint 8th last week saw Twickenham move out of the relegation zone and the aim for the next few games will be to cement mid-table security.

Parminder Singh returns to the side to bolster the bowling line up. Parminder has traditionally excelled in all-day cricket and he’ll be looking to purr away from one end. Ishwar Sohi adds pace and fire whilst Phil Nash and Val Guiraud will also be looking to make solid contributions with the ball.

Batting-wise, Don Manuwelge returned to form in impressive fashion in week 8 and he’ll be looking to continue that on. Scott Newman has been showing glimpses of what he can offer and, sooner or later, he is going to go big. Mesome Hussain, Nash and Ben Leale-Green have also all had their moments this season whilst it’s great to see Rhys Davies back behind the sticks.

Twos visit Brondesbury
The twos travel to third from bottom Brondesbury. Last time they hit the road they came a cropper at bottom of the table Kenton so Eugene Berger’s side will be taking precisely nothing for granted. The Ts currently lie 5th, but they are only six points behind second-placed Indian Gym. The league’s going to be a close one (see here for the table), so forcing victories in timed games really could be vital in the end of season shake up.

Berger looks like he has a strong unit to call on. Brandon Newman has made quite an impact since making his debut and he’s in. Kit Wilson returns, as does Josh Hinde. Ajmal Allahdad is also finally starting to show the form and consistency that everyone knew was in there somewhere; he plays, too.

The full side is Eugene Berger, Ajmal Allahdad, Sam Cliffe, Tom Field, Josh Hinde, Brandon Newman, Nikhil Nomula, Dom Thamby, Nakul Vishvanath, Kit Wilson and Ethan Wright

Threes welcome MTSSC
The third XI welcome Middlesex Tamils to St Mary’s. The Tamils have had a good start to the season and currently sit second in the log (see here). The Ts’ performance against them will be an interesting indicator of how far they have come in recent weeks.

Steve Watts certainly has a decent unit upon which to call. Harry Grinstead is in prime form following a century and excellent bowling performance for the MDL side last Sunday (see here), whilst Ozzie Qavi is posing opening batsmen county-wide problems. Steve Cowley returns to the threes to boost the top order as does the mercurial Kev Cavilla.

Watts is also unleashing some of the Ts’ young guns on the Tamils. Alongside Qavi (18) Watts will be able to call on the promising Fahrier Hasan (16) with the ball as well as the talented Ali Jennings. If they are good enough, they are old enough as the old saying goes.

The full side is Steve Watts, Robbie Bosier, Kev Cavilla, Steve Cowley, Oli George, Harry Grinstead, Fahrier Hasan, Ali Jennings, Ozzie Qavi, Hayden Tyler and Parampreet Singh.

Nine out of nine for the fours?
The fourth XI will be looking to make it a perfect first half of the season when they travel to Chiswick. Chiswick currently sit comfortably in mid-table but they’ll know that with a run of wins they won’t be too far from the promotion places (see the table here).

Dassani has had to ring the changes this week, but he’ll no doubt still be confident that his team can get the job done. Sarwant Singh returns to give firepower with both bat and ball, whilst Vijay Sanas comes in to open the bowling. Alex Waddell makes his seasonal debut whist Martin Fairn adds plenty of experience.

The full side is Hinay Dassani, Hiran Dissanayake, Martin Fairn, Uzzi Khan, Anthony Jones, Nisar Said, Vijay Sanas, Sarwant Singh, Praween Siriwardena, Chetan Ubale and Alex Waddell.

Fifths welcome Wembley
The fifths will be hoping that their upturn in league fortunes continues; they welcome Wembley to Broom Road. Wembley are 14 points and one place below the Ts; a win and there’s clear blue water between Twickenham and the bottom three (see here for the table).

With Chris Wylde sunning himself in warmer climes, Phil Walker is the man in the captain’s hot seat. Walker’s job will be made easier by the fact that the 5s have had excellent availability this season. He subsequently has a wealth of cricketing talent to call on.

Andy Donelan and Jonty Hunt, arguably the club’s most successful opening partnership this season, will no doubt go in first, with Jon Bosier (T20 style) and Paul McLoughlin (bat out a day and a half for the draw style) coming in lower down. Zafel Ali and Pete Burke can also wield the blade with gusto if needs must.

With the ball Anil Bhatt returns to the fray and Harmeet Singh will be looking to continue his excellent recent form. Nitin Parab, the man with more theories on cricket than the entire Sky comm box, is also primed and ready to unleash.

The full side is Phil Walker, Zafar Ali, Anil Bhatt, Jon Bosier, Pete Burke, Andy Donelan, Jonty Hunt, Paul McLoughlin, Nitin Parab, Gil Sanchez and Harmeet Singh.

Go well everyone!
