An exciting bit of news came through this week for Twickenham CC skipper Carlos Nunes. He's been called up to represent Portugal in their next round of international matches.
Carlos's record in the Middlesex County Cricket League (MCCL) is second to none. As of 3 September he's scored the small matter of 8,085 runs at an average of 35.31. That includes 48 fifties and 14 hundreds. Impressive!
Twickenham's captain marvel also has 142 wickets to his name (at an average of 25.6) and those who have been around the club long enough will remember that he is no mean wicket-keeper. It's evidently stats like those above that have made Nunes an attractive proposition for the selectors of the Portuguese national side.
The Twickenham CC skipper is not the only Middlesex player who'll soon be donning the Portuguese version of the baggy green; two more MCCL players are also in. Dhaval Narotam opens the batting for Crouch End CC and Sharn Gomes has scored plenty of runs for Alexandra Park. Middlesex clearly representing!
The next round of games will be taking place from 2-6 October in Malaga, Spain. Portugal will be coming up against Ireland 'A' and Scotland 'A' so they will be in for some challenging contests.
No matter what the results of those games, it's clearly a great honour to be called up by your country and everyone at TCC and indeed across Middlesex will be rooting for Carlos and the other MCCL boys in this one.
Go well, skipper!
