The 2025 Middlesex County Cricket League season comes to an end on Saturday (6 September). And, three of the five Twickenham senior sides have plenty to play for.
Ones have the job already done
There have been times in the past where the Twickenham 1st XI had it all to play for on the last day of the season. Not in 2025. Why? As the job's already been done.
Carlos Nunes has led the side magnificently and his troops have not just secured promotion they've already claimed the league title (see here for the table). Magnificent stuff.
So, the ones finish their season at Lonsdale Road in Barnes knowing that they can relax, hit the ball hard, bowl straight and enjoy their final game of the campaign with the pressure off.
Twos win and they are promoted
The twos, meanwhile, are in an altogether different position (see here for the table). They are in a promotion fight and they need to produce.
On the one hand the scenario is simple. The twos host sixth placed Hornsey and if they beat them then they will go up. Simples.
If the seconds don't beat Hornsey and third placed Winchmore Hill lose to already relegated Finchley then Blake van der Linde's troops will go up anyway. The complication comes if Winchmore Hill win. If the two sides end on 91 points - and that's possible if the Ts pick up two points from a close defeat - then it will be Winchmore Hill that go up. Why? As they have done better in the head-to-head contests with Twickenham.
So, keep it simple; Twickenham 2s win, Twickenham 2s go up.
Threes look to finish strong
The threes have had a much more impressive season than they did in 2024. Captain Robbie Bosier has led the side magnificently and they will finish in the top half of the table (see here).
The 3rd XI's late season charge means that if they beat Hornsey at Broom Road there's a fair chance they may end up third in the ladder. An eminently respectable achievement.
Fours in second place showdown
The Twickenham CC 4s have arguably the biggest jeopardy game of the weekend. It's do or die against fellow promotion-chasers, Ealing Trailfinders 3s (see here for the table).
Twickenham currently sit second, eight points ahead of the Trailfinders. So, the Ts win, the Ts stay second. They also stay second if it rains and no result is possible. The weather forecast is good, but if the skies turn grey then the Ts will be the more relaxed side.
There is a scenario when the two sides could both finish on 113 points. That would happen if Trailfinders win a close one and Hinay Dassani's men pick up two bonus points. What happens then? Twickenham would come through as they'd have more points (12 v 10) in the head-to-head.
Message Steve McQueen on behalf of the 5s
The fives don't have their fate in their own hands. But, they still know that - if the cards fall nicely - the chance really is there to pull off the Great Escape (see here for the table).
One thing is clear; the fifth dimension need to beat Brentham 4s. Given that they got a winning draw against them earlier in the season, they know they have it in them.
If the 5s win then all eyes will turn to how SKLP 4s are getting on. The good news from a Twickenham perspective is that SKLP are playing Chiswick 4s. And, Chiswick have already been crowned champions.
Should that game go to form and SKLP lose and indeed don't pick up any bonus points, then the 5s will be safe. It's certainly possible....
