MCCL Week 14 Preview

MCCL Week 14 Preview

Dan Hough

Availability strains everywhere, but five TCC XIs nonetheless enter the fray.

It is officially holiday season. Given that, it remains one of the great mysteries of our time as to how the Twickenham CC captains have come together to somehow get five sides out. The days of the legendary Hinay Dassani recruiting from bus stops in Hounslow or indeed finding North Koreans in Hampton (both true stories) may well have returned, if for one week only.

The onslaught of injuries and holidays inevitably has an impact on the apparent quality of the sides being put out, but, well, a number of the Twickenham teams will nonetheless be hopeful that they can come through the final weekend of timed cricket with some more points added to their respective totals. We shall see.

Ones travel to Stanmore Common
The big news in terms of the 1st XI is that Kev Cavilla, the riddle wrapped in a mystery hidden deep inside an enigma, is back in the ones.

Frankly, Cavilla’s return has been something that the masses have been demanding for a long, long time. The memorable appearance way back when against Highgate will be hard to beat, but Cavilla will no doubt be giving it a try. One thing Cavilla will be particularly apt at doing is taking full advantage of the lunch/tea that Stanmore’s Steph Reingold will provide. Candidate for best in the league there….

Cavilla’s re-emergence to one side, Oli Melville-Ross also steps up, while Ali Jennings and Margin Kantilal will be jostling for the new ball slot alongside Blake Cullen.

The 1st XI is Carlos Nunes, Kevin Cavilla, Blake Cullen, Preet Himanshukumar, Ali Jennings, Margin Kantilal, Oli Melville-Ross, Akash Multani, Dru Shori, Ollie White and Ethan Wright.

Twos host Stanmore on the Green
Stanmore twos will be making the reverse journey to lock horns with Twickenham’s second string.

Stanmore have not had a bad season. They currently sit fourth, just a point off North Middlesex in third. No one will be catching Teddington, but Stanmore can reasonably hope that with a fair wind they have a chance of finishing second.

Twickenham, meanwhile, sit in eighth. Both Brondesbury (six points back) and Hampstead (seven points behind) are nonetheless within striking distance (see here for the table). Anything that the Ts come away with on Saturday will be useful.

The twos go into the encounter with an eclectic feel to their line up. Barty Boyd, a man who’s been in a decent run of form of late, comes in to add some heft to the batting line up, Rajdeep Choudhary brings the style and panache. Alex Penwill makes his second XI debut, Varad Rampal returns behind the sticks and the enigmatic Dev Tomlinson will feel it’s time to go big with the bat.

The 2nd XI is Nakul Vishvanath, Barty Boyd, Rajdeep Chaudhary, Milan Gujral, Syed Mehdi, Nikhil Nomula, Alex Penwill, Varad Rampal, Nishan Singh, Dom Thamby and Dev Tomlinson.

Threes welcome Indian Gym to Broom Road
The threes face what looks like it’ll be an interesting encounter with Indian Gym.

Indian Gym currently sit second, just the one point behind top-of-the-table Hornsey (see here). The Ts, meanwhile, are keeping a close eye on proceedings in fourth. As things stand, there’s 33 points between them and Indian Gym, but a win on Saturday and the Ts will still be very much in the promotion race.

Steve Cowley, arguably the form batter in the club, plays as does the Prince of Broom Road, Ollie George. Lawrence Brown is also a very interesting late addition to the batting line up. Ben Hawkins and Ross Leighton have both impressed lower down this season – it’ll be intriguing to see how they go in the threes this weekend.

The 3rd XI is Robbie Bosier, Lawrence Brown, Steve Cowley, Sean Daly, , Rohith Doma, Ollie George, Ben Hawkins, Ross Leighton, Frankie Lingeman, George Pearson and Sourav Salgotra.

Fours are off to high-flying West Harrow
The fours look like they are on something of a hiding to nothing this weekend. They travel to top of the table West Harrow (see here).

Indeed, West Harrow are not just top of the table. They are 40 points clear and could be promoted on Saturday. A pretty bombastic effort from those guys.

Hinay Dassani nonetheless travels with a fine body of men. The ebullient Terone Alexander plays – he’ll be backing himself to make an impact. Andy Donelan has quietly been accumulating runs all year, while Ali Malik is also a man who knows which way round to hold the bat. The battle for MVT (Most Valuable Tebb) takes places in the fours this week, while Mehran Iqbal returning helps any side at this level.

With the selection carousel turning, there are also a range of newer faces in the side. Fingers crossed all gels well.

The 4th XI is Hinay Dassani, Terone Alexander, Andy Donelan, Dan Humphrey, Mehran Iqbal, Ali Malik, Jake Mendel, Tom Petrides, Harry Tebb, Liam Tebb and Akilesh Yadav.

Fives welcome Actonians to King George’s Field
The fives continue their attempt to chase Teddington 4s down at the top of Division 6A of the third tier. Currently, Teddington are 18 points clear (see here for the table). So, Jonny Bosier’s side are definitely second favourites, but they will most definitely keep at it until the bitter end.

Bosier himself has reported in fit (well, fit-ish) and ready to play. That’s got to be good. Harmeet Singh is also back, and he’ll be keen to launch a bit of tweak and twirl at the Actonians’ batters. Kim Abbott, leading scorer for the TCC women, will also be looking to add to her impressive total of 304 runs (at an average of 76) so far in 2026.

El Doherty also plays. That adds something with the ball and there’s a fair chance she’ll open up alongside 5th XI stalwart Lloyd Townsend. Ryan Oakes will be keen to get involved on the bowling front, too; both Oakes and indeed Bosier are on hat-tricks from the game last week. Not often that two players find themselves in that position at the same time…..

The 5th XI is Jon Bosier, Kim Abbott, Saul Croxford, El Doherty, Dan Gladwell, Jon Goddard, Paul Mcloughlin, Ryan Oakes, Harmeet Singh, Lloyd Townsend, Adi Udernani.

Go well everyone!
