MCCL Week 2; Preview

Dan Hough15 May - 08:57

Eurovision week incoming, how many Twickenham sides be able to return home with 'dix points'?

The threes were the stars of Week 1, but Week 2 offers the other four sides another chance to properly get up and running. Mind you, there look like there are some tough fixtures about. Time to lock in, knuckle down and get some (more) points on the board....

Week 2 of the 2026 campaign aligns itself this year with Eurovision. Indeed, the annual festival of Europop will be on the big screen in the pavilion once the cricket's all finished.

Will the ones Rise Like a Phoenix to defeat near-neighbours and title favourites Teddington on the Green? Excellent availability has meant that selection-wise, Making Your Mind Up has been a tough task for 2nd XI skipper Blake van der Linde, while the threes will be looking to harness last week's Euphoria at beating Wycombe House to put one over on Willow Leather. The fours suffered something of a Waterloo in Week 1, but skipper Hinay Dassani is back and his talismanic talents will hopefully help turn their fortunes around. The fifths, meanwhile, were nearly Heroes as they got close to chasing 292, will Week 2 be a different story?

Ones to host Teddington
The ones have a tough task in front of them in Week 2. They lock horns with title-favourites Teddington.

Teddington were impressive victors over Shepherd's Bush in Week 1 and will travel full of confidence. Twickenham, meanwhile, will be pleased to welcome back Patrick Dixon at the top of the order, but otherwise remain unchanged.

The full first team is Carlos Nunes, Patrick Dixon, Preet Himanshukumar, Ben Leale-Green, Adam Mather, Don Manuwelge, Rashid Mullazadah, Akash Multani, Blake van der Linde, Ross Tamalge and Oliver White.

Twos travel to Ealing
The 2nd XI make the journey over to Corfton Road to play Ealing. Ealing started the season with a win, getting home by 23 runs against Richmond. The Ts, meanwhile, picked up a point in their valiant but ultimately fruitless chase against Brondesbury.

The selection carousel has subsequently turned. Eugene Berger led the troops in Week 1, but he will be turning out for the threes in Week 2. Sanjit Sandhu has the captain's armband. Faf Fourie comes in to bolster the batting (and maybe the bowling, we shall see), Oliver Melville-Ross enters the fray following a quick sojourn in the ones. Tom Hopkins plays, as do both the Shoris.

James Smith also comes in for Nigel Gordon. In a sign of the ruthless, win-at-all-costs mentality that Twickenham are displaying this season, the TCC stalwart finds himself forced to watch the ones whilst drinking lager on the veranda. Life can be hard at times, but the widely held belief is that the TCC groundsman won't be too worried about taking a watching brief this week.

Be that as it may, the 2nds are as follows. Sanjit Sandhu, Francois Fourie, Tom Hopkins, Margin Kantilal, Syed Mehdi, Oliver Melville-Ross, Varad Rampal, Dru Shori, Sami Shori, James Smith and Ethan Wright.

Threes welcome Willow Leather to Broom Road
The threes welcome one of the newer clubs on the Middlesex circuit to Broom Road, Willow Leather (3s).

The visitors started the season with a thriller of a win against Richmond. They got home by two runs as 127 beat 125. Twickenham, meanwhile, saw Ollie George score a century as they beat Wycombe House IIIs.

Skipper Robbie Bosier will like the look of the side that he has at his disposal. Having Eugene Berger and Nakul Vishvanath in the side can't hurt, both have ample experience of cricket at higher levels. The ebullient Dev Tomlinson comes in to add some panache, whilst Steve Cowley and Jonty Hunt join Ollie George in the batting engine room. Bowling-wise, Dom Thamby is likely to be let loose with the new ball, as is Nishan Singh. Hamish Johnston's tweak and twirl could also come in very handy.

The threes go with the following Robbie Bosier, Eugene Berger, Steve Cowley (wk), Oli George, Jonty Hunt, Hamish Johnston, Nishan Singh, Praween Siriwardena, Dom Thamby, Dev Tomlinson and Nakul Vishvanath.

Fours are off to Harrow Town
The fours, meanwhile, are off to play on the top pitch against Harrow Town (4s).

Neither side won last week, so someone will be breaking their 10 point duck. Returning skipper Hinay Dassani adds something with the ball, although the loss of Shah Bozdar is unfortunate. Fingers crossed the holy trinity of Dassani, Iqbal and Bozdar are back in action together soon.

The good news is that the all-action cricket that Imran Niazai provides will be on show, and Hiran Dissanayake comes in for his seasonal debut. The 4s travel in positive mood.

The 4th XI is Hinay Dassani, Saul Croxford, Hiran Dissanayake, Jarryd Knott, Holger Kriess, Frankie Lingeman, Eijaz Mahmood, Imran Niazi, Alex Penwill, Meer Saeed and Liam Tebb.

Fives welcome Kensington & Chelsea 4s
The fives were involved in an entertaining contest at Teddington in Week 1. They didn't win, but they showed enough to lead onlookers to believe that 2026 could be a good year.

Young sensation Ronnie Riddett comes in for his senior debut, whilst old stagers McCloughlin, Hough, Goddard and Ali add the experience. Puneet Sahota and Rishabh Gulati will be looking to do some damage with the ball, gaffer Jon Bosier will be looking to avoid the first ball calamity that befell him in Week 1.

The fives set up as follows. Jon Bosier, Zafar Ali, Jon Goddard, Rishabh Gulati, Dan Hough, Paul Mcloughlin, Tom Petrides, Ronnie Ridett, Puneet Sahota, Sourav Salgotra and David Williams.

Go well everyone.
