MCCL Week 6; Preview

MCCL Week 6; Preview

Dan Hough12 Jun - 21:28

Just the three Twickenham sides in action in Week 6 of the MCCL. Team news here.

The first round of limited overs games are now behind us, ahead of us nine weeks of 'traditional' cricket. Like it or loathe it, it's the format that's going to be employed across the MCCL over the next two months.

Twos host Barnes
That having been said, the ones and the fives are going to have to wait just a little while before they launch themselves into it. The ones were scheduled to play Osterley but they withdrew from the league in March. The fives were set to play Isleworthians 4s; they also took their leave in the Spring. So, a week at training camp beckons for both; the fact that 5s' skipper Jon Bosier has decided that that camp will begin in the bar on Twickenham Green need not concern us here....

The twos, however, are very much in action. They are at home to bottom of the table Barnes (see here for the ladder). Barnes have just the three points to their name, and that was from a rained off encounter last week with Winchmore Hill. An opportunity for the Ts to get win two of the season? It may well be.

Skipper Blake van der Linde has found himself forced into making a few changes. Grant Romeril is in for his seasonal debut while Sanjit Sandhu returns to the top order. They'll certainly bolster the batting. The riddle wrapped in a mystery hidden inside an enigma - or Kev Cavilla as he's occasionally also known - is also well and truly back, and TCC's resident cricketing badger, Anush Ganesh, rejoins the bowling ranks.

The second XI is Blake van der Linde, Wayne Edgar, Kev Cavilla, Anush Ganesh, Hamish Johnston, Margin Kantilal, Phil Nash, Grant Romeril, Sanjit Sandhu (wk), Sami Shori and Callum Watson.

Threes welcome Indian Gym
The threes are back at Broom Road. They take on Indian Gym.

Both sides have two wins to their name and they are currently locked on 24 points each (see here for the table). Something, so you'd think, will have to give.

The big news for the threes is that Alex Waddell returns. No matter how that ultimately plays out, you know it's going to be entertaining. Varad Rampal is back behind the sticks, largely as Nihal Tomar is almost certainly still recovering after keeping for 30 overs last week. Mark Smith is also in; never a bad thing to have a golden arm in your ranks.

The third XI is Robbie Bosier, Ollie George, Rajdeep Choudhury, Vamshi Krishna, Rehan Naqvi, Varad Rampal (wk), Nishan Singh, Mark Smith, Praween Siriwardena, Dev Tomlinson and Alex Waddell.

Fourths travel to SKLP
The fourth XI hit the road. They are off to Kingsbury High School to play SKLP 4s.

SKLP are struggling near the bottom of the table (see here), so Hinay Dassani's barmy army will be keen to return home with a pocket full of points.

As is ever the way, Dassani has had a few selection dilemmas to work through. The end product there sees Barty Boyd, Chris Wylde and Martin Fairn - redoubtable souls one and all - all back in the team.

Nihal Tomar is expected to be able to park his zimmer frame next to the boundary for the period when he's on the field. Monish Malhotra, meanwhile, offers up a bit of youthful zest. Liam Tebb is also in behind the stumps, and Sasi Chinthreddy will be looking forward to making his mark.

The fourth XI is Hinay Dassani, Bart Boyd, Shah Bozdar, Sasi Chinthreddy, Sean Daly, Hiran Dissanayake, Martin Fairn, Monish Malhotra, Liam Tebb (wk), Nihal Tomar and Chris Wylde.

Go well everyone
