Positive pre-season continues for the Ts

Positive pre-season continues for the Ts

Two wins out of two for the Twickenham senior sides in their encounters with Chesham

The positive pre-season vibes coming out of the Twickenham camp were amplified on 26 April with two wins from two against Chesham.

Nunes in the groove
The ones' game took place on the Green (see here for the card). Gaffer Carlos Nunes won the toss and had little hesitation in having a hit. Nev Talbot set the tone with a 31 ball 56 (just the four sixes, plus six fours in that), but it was the skipper himself who led the way. He ended with a magisterial 109no off exactly 100 deliveries.

Don Manuwelge also continued his fine form; he helped himself to 51 (66 balls) as the Ts closed on 261 off their 40 overs. Jonathan Burden led with the ball for the visitors, he finished with 2-35 off his allotted eight overs.

Solid performance from the 1s bowlers
In reply Chesham didn't get off to the worst of starts, and at 76-2 they were, at least in theory, still in the hunt.

But, Don Manuwlege's dismissal of opener Matthew Rance (34 off 53) put a spanner in the works, and three wickets for Heath Mather (3-41) left the visitors with a real mountain to climb.

Luke Dawson was, however, undeterred. He boshed 71 off 48, and he was ultimately last man out as Chesham closed on 210. Nikhil Nomula (2-49) and Don Manuwelge (2-27) claimed a couple of poles, although Akash Multani (1-20), the legend that is Eugene Berger (1-22) and Preet Patel (1-4) also chipped in.

An all round decent doo.

Twos impress on the Green
The twos had a day that was every bit as enjoyable. They won at Chesham by 34 runs (see here for the card).

Just as on the Green, the Ts had first hit. Openers Varad Rampal (84 off 71) and Ollie George (55 retired out off 87) impressed, as did Hiran Dissanayake (42no off 34) at four. A run-a-ball cameo at the end by Anush Ganesh was also decidedly noteworthy. Matt McKinlay (1-32) led the way for Chesham.

In reply, the Chesham batters regularly got in but they also then managed to get out. Both openers got into the 20s before Imran Niazi (3-37) and Anush Ganesh (1-25) removed them. Kieran Patel top scored with 42, but when Max Hunt bowled him the game was more or less up for the hosts. Hunt's 2-22 definitely counts as a good start to the season, too, as does the 1-35 that the redoubtable Dev Tomlinson chipped in.

So, all in all, a very successful day. Well done one and all.
