The sun shone and everyone sweltered. Including the Twickenham CC women's team. But, they played through the heat and ultimately moved into second place in the Third Division (N) of the Surrey Championship (see here for the table). Good stuff.
Batters go well
Before the start of play Chiswick were above Twickenham in the ladder. But, both sides had won two and drawn two, so a close game was on the cards.
In truth, the Ts started strongly and were always ahead of the game (see here for the card). 'Keeper batter Angela Clark (40 off 53) and the ebullient Kimberley Abbott (42 off 36) set the tone, putting on 71 for the first wicket.
Ursula Fletcher-Ogden then continued her good form with a brisk enough 17 (off 22), before Kate Aldridge (28 not out off 28) and Betty Cassidy (10no off 11) put on an undefeated 37 to see the Ts close on 165. In 25 overs, a decent effort.
Cassidy and Cramby do the damage with the ball
If Chiswick were going to chase that down they then needed to get off to a brisk start. And, they did, Mariam Mirza opening up with 40 (33 balls).
Once, however, Rachel Lea dismissed her the Ts began to firmly take control. Isabel Miller (17 off 19) batted well, as did Rozzy Beckett (16no off 31), but wickets kept falling as the run rate required kept rising.
Betty Cassidy (2-23) and Emily Cramby (2-20) were at the heart of the Ts' bowling effort, although Ursula Fletcher-Ogden and Karen Wilton were also in the wickets. Chiswick subsequently closed on 116, a fair way short.
So, a good win for the Twickenham Women then. Next up are third placed Egham, on the Green on Sunday 28 June.
