TCC Women's run of good form continues......

Dan Hough17 May - 21:09

Thames Ditton put up a fight, but the Ts' women come out on top by 35 runs

Twickenham's women made it two wins from two, easing past Thames Ditton on 17 May with just a little to spare (see here for the card). Runs from the top order, and wickets from the opening bowlers were the key catalysts, although once again everyone did their bit.

Abbott and Clark breeze nicely along
The Ts won their first game of the season by the proverbial country mile (see here for the card), so no matter how their match against Thames Ditton panned out it simply had to be closer than their match against Egham was.

So it transpired. The Ts batted first, and they got off to a real flier. Kimberley Abbott (56 off 47) set the tone, Angela Clark (46 off 62) proceeded to follow that lead. 121 for the second wicket, and the Ts were cruising.

Thames Ditton, to their credit, did then come back into the game. They were helped by a calamitous run out of Janet Hopper (no more need to be said about this), and while Ursula Fletcher Ogden hit her first two balls for four, the third (from Ella Anderson) trapped her leg before. The Ts were rocking a bit.

The steady hand of Karen Wilton (14no off 29) nonetheless saw the Ts move to an eminently respectable 172. Ella Anderson (3-25) was the pick of the Thames Ditton bowlers.

Spin and seam combine to set the Ts up nicely
Thames Ditton's reply started well enough, and at 22-0 they looked well set to mount a charge towards the required total.

Three wickets then fell for the addition of just one run as Karen Wilton's wily spin and El Doherty's seam up prompted a fair degree of chaos to descend on batting proceedings.

Indeed, Doherty helped herself to a really impressive 5-20 as she continued her excellent form from the previous week. Wilton, on her seasonal debut, finished with 4-22 as Twickenham blew the top and middle order away. Emily Cramby was the other Ts' bowler to get in on the wicket-taking fun.

To be fair, TD's number ten, Connolly-Eich, showed impressive resilience in scoring 27 (28 balls), and the 40 that the last wicket pair put on got TD a lot closer than many thought they might go. Good resilience on the part of the visitors' last two batters there.

Be all that as it may, it was an excellent day for the Twickenham Women. Onwards to 7 June and the visit of Walton upon Thames.
