In 2023 Twickenham won the Middlesex T20 Competition. That's gained them a rather unexpected invitation.....
European Cricket Network comes to town
The European Cricket Network (ECN) has developed into an interesting niche player in the global cricket market. They host tournaments all over Europe. They live stream them all, they commentate on them all and, say it quietly, but they are great fun to watch.
Now, the Ts find themselves entering the fray in ECN's very first event in England. Indeed, ECN has hosted 165 events in mainland Europe across 21 countries in 45 cities. This, however, is the first one ever to be held in Blighty.
The format is round-robin games in a ten over per side shootout. The participants are some of the best club sides in the shortened format of the game.
The Ts are therefore in with some seriously big-hitters. The first round of games took place on Bank Holiday Monday (27 May) and the Ts fared pretty well; there were wins against Tunbridge Wells and Spencer, and a narrow defeat (in a four overs per side game!) versus Wimbledon. You can watch all of Day One here if you're that way inclined.
At the end of Day One the Ts perhaps surprisingly find themselves top of the table.
Few overs, but lots of games
ECN might be a short-overs format, but there are plenty of games in the tournament.
The Ts continue their quest for ECN glory at 09h45 on Tuesday (28 May) when they play Hornchurch. That's then followed by a(nother) meeting with Tunbridge Wells at 11h45. There are three more (!) games on Wednesday (29 May). You can see all games live here.
The final shake up then takes place on Friday (31 May).
All of the games are live on the internet and indeed the quality of the coverage is pretty good. The commentators are also worth listening to..... until their never-ending positivity drives you round the bend.
So, if you're at a loose end, do click on this at 09h45/11h45 on Tuesday, could be worth a watch.
