Ts welcome overseas opponents for their second game of the 2019 Cricket Week

Being awarded membership of the TCC Vets is the highest honour the club can bestow on anyone. Dom Thamby has a long way to go before he's formally inducted

Following a pulsating clash with long-time friends Redditch on the first day of Cricket Week (see here for the lowdown), Tuesday sees a new opponent in town; the Ts are very pleased indeed to be welcoming the Singapore Cricket Club to the Green!

Singapore CC; 165 years old and counting …
Like Twickenham CC it’s clear that Singapore CC has a lot of tradition to call upon. The club was founded in 1852 and sees itself as “the premier sports and lifestyle club in the heart of the city state”. The Cricket Club isn’t just a cricket club, either; a wide range of games are played there ranging from hockey to rugby and from netball to football.

The travelling Singapore party is this year made up mostly of Vets players. The Ts’ Vets squad is subsequently turning out in force for the game. Spiritual leader of the side will be, as ever, Nigel Gordon. Indeed, he will be putting both the groundsman’s duties and the bar manager’s role on hold for the day as he dons his whites.

Wicket-keeping maseterclass on offer
Seasoned Vets’ performers such as Paul Johnson, Phil Parker, Colin Blunden, Mark Johnson and Phil Walker are also very much in as is Club Chairman Jon Varney. Watch out for a wicket-keeping masterclass there.

New members of this elite society such as Steve Watts and Eugene Berger will be doing well if they survive the initiations (go easy on them, Nige), whilst Dom Thamby is making an early claim for Vets’ membership just a little ahead of time.

All in all it should be an enjoyable day. 2pm kick off, do pop down if you can.
