Twickenham and Ashford U13s go all Hundred!

Twickenham and Ashford U13s go all Hundred!

Dan Hough

Twickenham's U13s come out on top as the Hundred made its debut on Twickenham Green

With a World Cup semi-final on the TV at 8pm, the U13s of Twickenham and Ashford decided that rather than postpone their friendly, they'd go all Hundred so as to shorten the game and finish by 7.55pm. On second thoughts, maybe they should have played an ODI so that they finished too late to watch the football.....

Ts bowlers keep it tight
Be that as it may, Twickenham had much the better of the encounter, winning by nice wickets (see here for the card).

A few extras initially got Ashford up and running, but Shay Patel then made a breakthrough, snaring opener Sofian Eysa when the score was 14. Agastya Sugur (12 off 14) and skipper Rahav Singla (16 off 11) took the score up to 39, but from then on in it was Twickenham who took control.

Annabelle Marsh (1-14) had Sugur caught be her brother, James, while Declan Bright (1-4) removed Singla - also caught by the bucket-hands of James Marsh. Shay Patel (2-6) grabbed another wicket and the parsimonious Austin Belshaw (1-6) also got into the wicket-taking groove. Ashford closed on 108 off their 100 balls.

Solid batting all round by the Ts
Twickenham ultimately made quick work of chasing that total down. Indeed, they got home with over 30 balls to spare.

Austin Belshaw set the tone, hitting 21 before retiring not out. Shay Patel (19no off 16) followed that lead, as did the ebullient Ronnie Riddett (22, retired not out). That left Patel and Marsh Jnr to see the Ts over the finish line. Shout out to Sofian Eysa for giving little away with the ball.

Will the Hundred be returning to the Green in future? It may do, but before then the U13s have their annual 'Ashishball' match to look forward to on Monday 20 July. If you think the Hundred is left field, then Ashishball takes it to a whole new level....
