Visitors Horley made the trip with a quarter-final win in their sights

Two wickets and a PB? Go on then!
- Robin Hall

Priti Dey writes

Hot and humid, it's been the same

Never imagined to say, we need some rain

The Green is brown, so dry is our ground

Well, the Covers off, and ropes laid

On came the captains to decide our fate

A good toss to win, but the opposition to bat

We were surprised, so that was that

Horley made some runs, and we chased them down

Here we go, on to the next round!!

A birthday party, dog poo on the pitch and a rude teenager - it was all happening at the Green.

Sarai won the toss and decided to field first. With eight players a side and a lot of ground to cover, we were ready in this heat and sun. Priti and Sin opened the bowl. The first few balls, no run, then comes a belter from the batter, but Kate Aldridge (yes, she is back!) manages to stop the four, scrapping her knee to the ground. Only to throw it away so hard that it goes for a boundary on the other side. We all laugh and admire her excellent throwing arm and make sure to shout 'easy' throughout the game! After 12 overs, the score is 72 for no loss—a reasonable run rate, but not for long as Robin and Sarai come to bowl. Robin takes the first wicket, a catch to remember again by Kate Aldridge. Robin takes another one, 'bowled and caught'. We cheer!!! Then comes the Skipper - two wickets back to back, and she is ready to take a hattrick. We tell her it's £5 for hattrick avoidance. She misses, but we decide not to fine her because the successive few balls were the best of best. Horley's set a target for 107 runs in 16 overs, losing 5 wickets.

Quick snack and the 2nd innings start. Kate L and Kate A open for the TCC ladies. A good start with both Kates hitting it from the word go. Lenny is delighted (and we are too!) as she hits her first four - wishing her many more. With some regular boundaries and running, we reach 69/2 in 10 overs. The situation is a bit tight - around six over remaining and 38 to score. On comes Sarai to join Robin - and the assault of runs on the opposition begins. 6s and 4s (and a few no-balls) get through the crease in just 12.6 overs. TCC ladies are victorious. We hug, celebrate, and spend some pounds at the bar.

Special mention to Horley ladies here - a lovely bunch and a friendly team to play against.
