League leaders Spencer travelled to the Green hoping for another win and an early finish. Priti Dey reports on Twickenham's efforts.

We were all a tad shocked when Claire came off - her face was as red as her hair!

A hot day predicted by MET weather, the temperature soaring to 30 degrees and the ground dry to the bone - the Green was all set to welcome Spencer ladies for a sweltering day of cricket.

With generous applications of the sun cream, off went the captains Sarai Knight of TCC and Alycia Jewes of Spencer. Coin toss won - Sarai decided to bat first. Katie Martin-Fagg (fondly known as KMF) opened the batting with Claire. KMF plundered a couple of boundaries but was sadly given out as 'caught behind the wicket', and she departed with good grace. On came Sin, scoring 28 of 35 balls with some excellent fours and the opposition failing to stop the ball. A brilliant delivery, and Sin was bowled out. Then it was the time for our skipper to shine, and shine she did. The opposition had to spread the field far and wide to try and hold her back Sarai, but none could. Scoring 40 runs just of the boundaries, she got 52 off 50. Our longest-standing batter on the field on Sunday, Claire's exquisite innings, came to an end too. Her 37 runs and a 50 partnership with Sarai put us in a strong position. Sophie, Melissa and Jess followed this, and the target was set for 154.

Teas must get their own mention here. Organised by Melissa, it was a feast! People not present at the game, you genuinely missed out on a delicious spread.

Teas consumed, Sarai and Priti opened the bowling. A lovely opening ball by the captain, and the batter misses. Spencers at 16 runs, Sarai bowls - the bails fly off, and TCC has their first wicket. After a few good overs and dot balls for the openers, the torch was passed to Robin and Sin. Amazing spell by both of them; however, this is followed by some steady runs (thanks to the fielding by the report's author here). On comes Claire and gets a wicket off her second ball! Beautifully caught by the most steady pair of hands - Sarai's. The match continues. Claire's fabulous day of cricket doesn't end here as she sees off Spencer's captain on Priti's ball with an easy catch. The opposition scores more runs, Sarai comes from the pavilion end again, and boom, a wicket! A much-needed one. Unfortunately, Spencer manages to chase down the total and win the game.

Overall, a good day of cricket and fines - the pot is feeling heavy already.
