Twickenham's U11 development side win a close one against Teddington B

Twickenham's U11 development side win a close one against Teddington B

23 runs separate the sides as the Ts just about sneak home

Twickenham and Teddington play each other regularly in league cricket, but for the first time this season they locked horns in a friendly. The reason? Both clubs wanted to rotate their U11 line ups and give some new players a chance to show what they can do.

Allen and Thornton make hay while the sun (doesn't) shine
The Ts batted first and immediately went through the gears. Both Sammy Allen (25 off 28) and Jonty Thornton (27 off 42) hit the ball cleanly, and the Teddington attack couldn't ultimately dislodge either. Both ultimately took their leave with the score in the 70s.

Once they'd gone the scoring rate inevitably slowed down a little, although Raf Foster played with plenty of intent for a swashbuckling 20 (off 24). Indeed, it looked like he, too, was going to have to retire, only for Frank Gallimore to get through Foster's defences and knock the stumps over.

Enterprising (and entertaining) running from Fred Guest and the ebullient Mass Constantopoulos subsequently saw the Ts to an eminently respectable 143.

Pradyumna catches the eye
Teddington needed just over seven an over to win. Theo Bedwell (13 off 21) started with positive intent, but when Max Fernandes removed him the visitors began to slip behind the rate. Two catastrophic run outs didn't help; not once but twice did batters take on Jonty Thornton's arm, and twice they lost. The Ts were in the ascendency.

Albert Whitehead bowled nicely on debut, whilst Fred Guest and particularly Ved Pradyumna kept things nice and tight. Indeed, Pradyumna took two wickets in two balls at one stage to really make a dent in the Teddington middle order.

Through all that Niamh Donegan (27no off 54) batted delightfully, nudging and nurdling her runs as she went. Donegan's innings wasn't nonetheless enough to see Teddington home, as Harvir Ghere helped himself to a wicket maiden and Twickenham to a 23 run win (see here for the card). Excellent stuff all round.
