On 26 May Twickenham U10s and Teddington U10 B faced each other down on a balmy evening in Bushy Park. The sun had been blistering hot all day, but, thankfully, by the time the two sides locked horns things had become just about manageable. And, a decent game of cricket ensued as a result.
Sam Allen stars with the ball
In terms of run-scoring there was nothing between the sides. Literally nothing. Both scored 99. The hosts snuck home on the night as they lost fewer wickets and with that had fewer -5s to contend with (see here for the card).
The star man for the Ts was undoubtedly Sam Allen. He bowled last up and was excellent value for his 3-3 off two overs. Indeed, next time he bowls he'll be on a hat-trick having taken two wickets with the final two balls of the innings.
Jack Fogerty led the way for Teddington, posting 12, while Arthur Jeeps (0-7 off 2), Annie May (0-5 off 2) and Tommy Aukland (0-7) kept things tight for the Ts. The Ts needed 275 to win.
Ts fall just short
Annie May and Edith McCarthy started sensibly. They put on 14 and, crucially, neither was out. A decent start.
Quinn Kedzlie carried that on nicely, ending on an undefeated 9, but once he departed wickets did begin to fall. Jack Fogerty (2-13) caught the eye for Teddington.
Would the Ts' final pair be able to pull victory out of the fire? Sam Allen certainly tried, hitting 14, while Gus Joyce also gave it a good go. Ultimately, however, the visitors fell ten short.
Be that as it may, it was a decidedly decent effort. Well done one and all.
