U11s ease past high-flying Wycombe House

Dan Hough24 Jun - 09:13

Solid with bat and ball, U11s back to winning ways

The Twickenham CC U11s took on Wycombe House on 23 June. And, they came out victorious, easing home by four wickets (see here for the card).

Wycombe House post 127
The Ts won the toss and they asked The House to have first hit. It didn't take James Marsh and Max Loynes long to remove the openers, and at 12-2 Wycombe House were reeling a bit.

20 overs is, however, a bit longer than many seem to think. Ibrahim Khan and Musa Mughal came in at three and four and they very much stabilised things. The pair batted nicely and got the visitors back into the game.

Still, once Khan retired with an impressive 31 to his name and George Bibby was bowled by Mughal for 28 the Ts regained a bit of control. Johnny May tweaked and twirled his way to 2-6 off his two overs, Will Mumby and Seb Goff also chipped in along the way with a wicket apiece. Wycombe House closed on 127.

Goff, Loynes and Bibby flail happily away
The Ts started positively in reply. Seb Goff in particular was in no mood to hang about and admire the scenery, he boshed 31 (off 14 balls) to get things up and running.

Max Loynes couldn't quite keep up with that sort of pace, but his 32 still came off just 23 balls. The Ts were going through the gears.

Then, as is often the way, they hit a couple of bumps in the road. A couple of ducks in the middle order caused nerves to jangle a bit, before George Bibby came in at seven and cruised merrily along to 30 (again, like Loynes, off 23 balls). Oscar Richardson was a little more sedate for his 10, and it was ultimately left to James Marsh - loitering in unfamiliar territory down the order - to be there at the end as the Ts got home with 9 balls to spare.

The win sees Twickenham up to fourth place in what's now a rather congested looking table (see here). Next up are sixth placed Barnes on Friday 4 July. An opportunity to strike out for a place in the top three? Yep, quite possibly....
