U11s set the ball rolling

U11s cruise into round two of the cup

For a first run out of the season the Ts looked plenty sharper than you might have expected. Bodes well for the next few weeks. All good.
- John Mumby, U11s' Cricket Tsar

The U11s were the first Twickenham CC junior side out of the blocks this season; they travelled to Moormead on Monday 21 April to get their 2025 cup campaign up and running. And, that they did very successfully, winning by 58 runs (see here for the card).

Top order comes to the party
The hosts won the toss and adopted to make first use of the new cherry. That logic cut little ice with the Twickenham openers; both Jonny May (26 retired off 34 balls) and Billy Clarke (26 retired off one ball fewer) got things moving, before Max Loynes (a rapid 25 retired off 18 balls) saw the Ts move through the gears nicely.

George Bibby, Will Mumby and Oscar Richardson then kept things moving nicely as the Ts moved to 126 off their allotted 20 overs. Sam Bolger (1-6 off 3) was the sole wicket-taker for Moormead.

Rory Thornton's in the groove
Moormead's reply got off to both a good and a bad start. On the plus side skipper Jack Barnes look good for his 28 retired (off 34 balls), but on the negative side batters 2-5 only managed to contribute 3 runs between them. Rory Thornton was the main man there, he took two wickets in his two overs and didn't concede a run along the way. A decent effort!

George Bibby (1-8 off 2) also bowled nicely, whilst our old friend Mr Run Out also returned to the fray. Moormead battled gamely, but ultimately decent fielding and tight bowling ensured they finished a distance behind.

Looking ahead, a regional quarter-final now beckons. Either Hampton Wick Royal or Ashford will be the opponents, although we'll have to wait a while to find out who comes out on top there. They meet on 9 May.
