U12s turn on the style against Barnes

U12s turn on the style against Barnes

Billy Clark stars as the Twickenham U12s register their first win of the campaign

The Twickenham U12s have been waiting a little while for their first win of 2026. But, when it came, it came in emphatic fashion as John Mumby's side swept to an eight wicket win against Barnes (see here for the card).

Clark to the fore
Billy Clark was the star. Even with a flat (artificial) track and a quick outfield, chasing 153 was never going to be the most straightforward of tasks. Yet Clark made batting look very simple as he helped himself to 68 off just 37 balls.

The innings was full of good running and even better hitting. Clark mastered the art of either keeping the ball on what's left of the green, green grass of home or boshing it over the boundary on the full. The second of his sixes certainly travelled farther than many a senior player can hit a cricket ball.....

There were, however, other decent performances. Luke Jaap played his part in a 75 run first wicket partnership with Clark, Max Loynes (30no off 31) carried on to keep things moving once Clark had departed the scene. Hugh Evers (1-9) and Oscar Mitchell (1-17) did what they could for the visitors.

Loynes leads with the ball

Yet at the half way point Barnes seemed reasonably happy with the score that they posted. They could perhaps have been a bit sharper between the wickets, but Teddy Smith (61 off 50) was impressive before Vince Hough took a decent catch at point to remove Barnes's star man.

Max Loynes was arguably the stand out performer with the ball. His 2-17 off 3 was a decent effort. Clark (1-16) and Hough (V) (1-12) also got into the wicket-taking act, whilst an excellent run out saw the potentially dangerous Hugo Fray come and go quickly.

All in all a decent display by the Ts. Next up are Ashford. They travel to Twickenham Green on 1 June.
