The U13s lost in agonising fashion to Wycombe House on 4 June (see here for the card). Visiting Skipper Sufyan Ahmed (21no off 27 balls) had ice in his veins, holding the House's innings together to ultimately see them over the line.
Fowler, Williams and Vali steady the ship
Wycombe House won the toss and sent the Ts into bat. That looked like an eminently sensible decision as the Twickenham top order spluttered badly. None of the top five scored more than six and at 16-5 things were looking decidedly ominous for the Ts.
But, skipper Finn Fowler stood up to be counted, and his 26 (31 balls) was central to the Ts recovering. Fowler put on 50 with Nicholas Williams (19 off 19) before Uzair Vali came in and upped the rate nicely at the end (31no off 22). That saw the Ts finish on a competitive 126-9 off their 20.
Ts push Wycombe House all the way
Wycombe House started their chase in much the same way that the Ts did; pretty badly. Jack Loynes claimed two in two balls and that certainly gave Twickenham hope.
Opener Raqeebuddin Mohammed nonetheless dug in and his 27 (off 35 balls) was vital in getting the House's innings moving. Ayaan Rajani (11 off 20) helped him out, but they both then went quickly, Buzz Trent claiming both scalps.
Trent and Loynes had their tails up. Both claimed a further wicket apiece, but the one wicket they couldn't get was that of Ahmed. His 21no was ultimately the game-defining knock, and he saw Wycombe House over the line with four balls to spare.
Lost though the Ts did, they still showed brilliant stickability in pushing their opponents all the way. The U13s are next in action on Thursday 12 June when they travel to Barnes.
