U13s on the cusp of winning the Div 2 title

U13s on the cusp of winning the Div 2 title

Dan Hough25 Jun - 20:39

55 run win over Moormead means U13s need just one point from final game to be champions

The Twickenham CC U13s are nearly there. An impressive 55 run win over Moormead sees David Williams's side move to within touching distance of some silverware..

Twickenham top order shines

The U13s continued their fine run of form with an emphatic victory against Moormead (see here for the card) on 25 June.

Moormead won the toss and they opted to chase. Twickenham could most definitely live with batting first and the Ts' top order soon moved rapidly through the gears.

Nicholas Williams continued his solid season by contributing 15 (off 19 balls), whilst Ronnie Riddett chipped in with 22 (off 29 balls). 69-2 and the Ts were purring nicely.

That pur became a growl when Fin Fowler and Uzair Vail entered the fray. They put on an unbeaten 115 as Twickenham upped the pace. Fowler was excellent value for his 55no (off 41 balls), as was Vail for 38no (off 32 balls). The two of them made the Ts odds on favourites as the game reached the half-way stage.

Jack Loynes strikes with the ball
Ben Magowan (28 at quicker than a run a ball) made his intentions clear as Moormead started the chase brightly. Skipper Finn Barnes (11 off 12) also looked in decent nick.

The Ts' bowlers nonetheless kept the pressure on and soon enough wickets started to fall. Jack Loynes led the way with 3-24, with wickets also falling to Riddett, Arthur Dyer, Fowler and Vail.

Dani Zouheir had nothing to show in the wickets column, but conceding seven runs off two overs also helped turn the screw. Evan Davies (0-9 off 2) did a very similar job.

Moormead were now drifting well behind the run rate and that despite Arjun Arora wading in with 20. Eventually Moormead closed on 129-8, 55 runs behind.

The Ts aren't quite home and hosed yet, but the Div 2 table most definitely looks very encouraging (see here). All that's now needed is one solitary bonus point when the Ts meet Ashford on 1 July.
