U14s defeat Hampton Wick Royal to win plate final

Alfie Gales leads the way as U14s win in style

The Twickenham CC U14s picked up the club's second trophy in a week (see here for more on the first) as they convincingly put Hampton Wick Royal to the sword (see here for the card).

On a tricky track Hampton Wick had first hit. Alex Watson led the way impressively, hitting an unbeaten 61 (off 46 balls). For the Ts Hugh Bunch tweaked and twirled to good effect, and his 1-8 was very well deserved. Woody Fowler, Joseph Burke and Aarush Jain also all chipped in nicely.

The Ts subsequently found themselves chasing 126 to win. With the ball not coming on particularly quickly, Twickenham were well aware that they needed to box clever in their approach. At the top of the order Aditya Udernani (16 off 24) got things moving nicely, and once he'd departed Aarush Jain (23 off 35) kept things shifting forward.

If Hampton Wick were going to win the game then the man that they needed to remove was the prolific Alfie Gales. The couldn't. Gales looked imperious, cracking five fours and two sixes as he moved beyond the half-century mark. He ended 61no (off 44 balls) with keeper batsman Ryan Barton (9no off 13) alongside him at the crease at the end.

The U14s have had a hugely encouraging season and a number of the side are already working their way impressively into senior cricket. Well done one and all.
