The Twickenham CC U8s enjoyed an excellent day's cricket down the road at Hampton Hill on 31 July, taking part in the hosts' inaugural u8 cricket festival.
The Ts travelled with a squad that embraced an eclectic mix of talents. There were those old timers who had played all season for the U8s, just as there were others making their debuts in the world of proper(ish) cricket. There were also four U7s in the squad (of ten) as the Ts looked to give as many people the chance to get up and involved as they could.
In terms of the other participants, Teddington sent a couple of sides over from the other side of Bushy Park, whilst the hosts themselves put three sides in. The format was eight over-per-innings, with everyone bowling one over and everyone batting (in a pair) for two overs.
At times, the cricket was fast and furious; crazy running between the wickets was mixed in with overthrows galore. Indeed, at one point Stan and Vince Hough managed an all run five without the ball ever really leaving the square.
There was also some really encouraging cricket played. Seb Gair again bowled well, Faris Iqbal wheeled out his trademark cover drive on a number of occasions and Noah Lemos looked good in both batting and bowling departments.
It was Aleks Sergot who nonetheless stole the bowling plaudits, claiming a hat-trick in the final game of the three that Twickenham played. There was another first of note, too; Stan Hough registered a stumping - the first of the season - to give Ivor Tilles a much deserved wicket.
Throw in some excellent bowling from Tommy Morgan, some lively wicket-keeping from Jonah Orrock plus some exuberance and enthusiasm from Ehud Ravid and the day really was set fair.
Fair play to Hampton Hill for putting everything together. It was a really enjoyable doo. All good.
